Solid piece, came with a small scratch, color not what I expected but I’ll refinish it remove scratch and stain it

I like this item but I did seem to run into a lot of problems with this. It’s not as stable as I wanted it. Not sure if that’s my novice handy skills or the screws and wood type? But the pre-drilled holes didn’t work for me at all as my studs were in a totally different location so I had to make new ones. It did come with a level which was nice! Unfortunately, it has a big scratch on the top of the wood and the side is kind of cracking (see photos). I really like the stain color, and that it’s hollow so it doesn’t weigh a ton. Great for the price, minus the scratch and the crack.

Looks beautiful, this replaced a 40 yo mantel so the mounting was extremely easy just used the existing board. The wood is very soft so handle with care.
