The 590739 recoil assembly was a great replacement for the 590743. I had to enlarge the holes for the outer mounting bolt hole. Everything worked just fine for my Toro CCr powerlite 16" 3.25 hp snowthrower.

This is a great replacement recoil starter pull replacement for a Tecumseh engine. It's holding up fine. BE AWARE to check your serial numbers before ordering. MANY look the same but the bolt hole spacings are different! Looks alone don't guarantee a correct fit.

Several things on my mower broke all at the same time so I’m maybe more critical than usual. The screw holes, as many other reviews have said, don’t line up. The screws go into tabs so by marking the position of the tabs you can find a way to drill new holes in the tabs while making sure the pull cord is where it needs to be. I found that the original recoil starter on my Lawn Boy had kind of a zag where the cord exits. Not having this made positioning the cord while not interfering with the screws on the engine cover a compromise. It worked but as the engine ran it was noisy. On about my fourth start the pull cord came out of the mower so that I was holding a cord no longer connected to the mower which meant I had to take it all apart again. When I did this I found a little tab bent and hitting the pushed out nubs of screw holes on the top. What the tab does or did is a mystery. I bent the tab back as well as I could and used my Dremel tool to sand the screw hole nubs so they would catch on the tab. It works, it’s quieter but it was a big pain. I suggest you try a different brand.Part 2: I had it working and managed to cut my lawn 1 and 1/2 times. I started the mower after emptying the bag and the mower started but the pull cord didn’t retract. With my bag full I had to stop the mower but could not restart it because the cord was still dangling loose. I’m not going to take it apart again to see if I can fix it again, I’m just ordering a new one made (hopefully) by someone else. If you need to replace your pull start don’t go to all that effort and install this piece of junk. I’d say it lasted for a dozen pulls.

This item was listed as being a match to my Toro part number. When I installed, the top shroud would not fit because of the positioning. I needed to drill 4 new mounting holes approx 3/4 in counterclockwise from the existing hole. I don't know if it was a production erroe or a listing /design error. After adjusting it finally seem to work fine.

After reading the reviews of the different recoil starters offered I bought this one. Every one of the starters has reviews that range from it's great to it's junk. I bought this one as it seemed to have the least number of it's junk reviews. It installed easily, all the holes lined up. I have used it probably 6 times, no issues at all, functions as it should. No complaints, at least none to this point. Based on performance so far I'd buy it again. If it suddenly falls apart or fails I'll amend my review.
