I have an older D.ell monitor that does not have a HDMI port to connect my new Mini PC.The adapter protrudes pretty much from the VGA plug of my monitor so make sure you have enough clearance there.Unfortunately, the Mini PC did not recognize the monitor, no image at all.I will try this device with a different older monitor and if successful will update this review.UPDATE, Today checked with older HP monitor that does not have HDMI port. The adapter worked as expected. In conclusion, this adapter may or may not work on VGA ports of older monitors.Upgrading rating from 1 star to 3.5 stars.

This adapter was tried using two different systems and it didn't work with either system. Not much else to say other than I returned the item.

If you need to repurpose a monitor with only VGA connections to a source with only HDMI outs, this will get it done. The screw down connectors aren't made very well; there is no way to turn them with a screwdriver or anything fingers or pliers if you don't mind the plastic getting damaged. The adapter doesn't seem to carry the HDMI audio to the device, but it does output the audio to a 3.5 mm plug, and it will output stereo if the source is also stereo.

Goes into the back of monitor's VGA port and connects to computer's HDMI. Avoids the long VGA cable. Good for connecting older monitors. Works well and impressed with the image quality. Reasonably priced.

I've used a boat load of video adapters over the years, but this is the first I've seen that goes at the far end of an HDMI cable. I like this because it let me connect to an old screen, and I didn't have to hunt down an old VGA cable. I didn't try running audio through it, but I love that it's an option!

I recently decided to get rid of my old, slow desktop computer. For some reason, I held onto the monitor, and I'm glad I did. Although I wasn't sure what I was going to do with an old VGA monitor, I didn't want to get rid of it because it was in pristine condition. When I came across this HDMI to VGA adapter, I instantly got a few ideas to repurpose my old monitor. I picked up an HDMI digital converter box and an antenna so I could watch TV on the monitor. I also got a wireless HDMI adapter so I can wirelessly share my phone or tablet screen to the monitor. I also have an old firestick in a junk draw. I also found my old RCA to HDMI converter for retro gaming. I have been getting quite a bit of use out of this old monitor thanks to this adapter. I want to get an HDMI splitter / switch so I can hook up multiple HDMI devices at one time. There were a few HDMI to VGA adapters to choose from. The reason why I chose this unit is its compact size and the 3.5mm AUX audio output. This AUX port allowed me to hook up my old computer speakers to the adapter. This adapter fits great into the VGA port on my monitor. It also screws in for a more secure connection. The HDMI cables fit and work great. The audio output lets you connect monitor speakers, computer speakers, headphones, or any other 3.5mm audio device. I love electronics and gadgets, I also have a portable RX TX Bluetooth adapter. I can plug my adapter into the AUX port and connect wirelessly to a bluetooth speaker, headphones, stereo, etc. I have an old 52" flat screen CRT TV with a VGA inport that this worked great with also. If you have an old VGA device sitting around collecting dust, I suggest you get one of these adapters. It will breathe new life into your old screen.
