The background of the plate is white. I thought it would be plain metal or like chrome.

I bought this for my son-in-law for Christmas and he loves it. I thought for the price it would be a thin metal, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the metal and the embossed lettering is crisp and clear. The Auburn colors are true and accurate. I got one of these for my son's car and he is very happy with it. It is exactly what I expected with a good quality build and the colors are excellent. So far it is doing fine and is showing no signs of fading. Should I need another I would not hesitate to buy one.
