I purchased this and the Weller stand at the same time, and I like this Hakko better. It's sturdier/heavier/larger, and the chain (yes, not solder) is silent as it slides through the guide (unlike on the Weller stand). My only complaints are that you have to assemble it yourself, which isn't really that big of a deal, and that one side of the guide prong doesn't fit in the hole. Other than that, it's pretty much perfect. I'm pleased with my purchase.

If you do not have a holder for your solder spools, just buy this. It is better than a loose spool of solder, not having to unwind it, then wrap the spool back up after use. It looks more professional on your bench and it is there, ready for use when needed. If you have several types, or diameter needs, get a few of these and print a label for them. There is also a model that holds two spools.

Really Kick Ass Reel. :D The wire guide stands up nicely and does a fine job of keeping things neat and allowing for you to re-roll the excess with a single hand. It also has just enough spring tension to it to kind of stay out of the way. (It doesn't feel like it's there really.)It also has a nice ground screw in case you accidentally start to solder something to a board while it is live. Like everyone else has already said the metal it's made of is thicker than hell... really love it.Something else about it is that it works well for being wall mounted. It doesn't come with wall mount points, but the roll goes in as such that the roll will be secure if you either make your own mounting holes. I actually just took the grounding screw out, put a wood screw through that hole and screwed it into a stud. Not really what you'd concider a ground, but I only work with low voltage stuff and that has worked perfect so far. :D

Probably the best soldering accessory I have ever purchased for myself. It's very well built, and has a thick steel base which has some weight to it, so it won't slide around. The sides are steel as well. Solder pulls out of this thing so easily. It's so much nicer than fumbling around with a loose spool all of the time. It keeps the solder wound better too.

I have to admit that when I saw the ad for the Hakko Solder Reel Stand 611, I was impressed. It looked to be a more substantial unit than some of the others on the market. When I received mine today, I was impressed with the weight of the unit and the machining. The only problem I have, is that instead of a hard metal axle for the roll of solder, which is what it appears to be in the advertisement, mine came with a cheap black plastic axle. I still think it is a very good unit but I had expected to receive what was pictured in the advertisement. Any deviation made from what is presented should be noted in the description of the product. I am capable of making my own steel axle for the unit, though I hate being misled by a photo in an ad.

This is a nice little reel that is heavy and well made. The device is simple and does just what it needs to do.Just like the other reviewer mine came with a plastic spindle. It is thick and made of what looks like black impact resistant ABS.One thing you may not see in the photo is that there is a screw on the back of the bottom plate that can be used to secure a grounding wire. Not sure how well it would work but it is a simple addition.
