In a world where extremely flimsy "pdw" 👀 cases are upwards of $80 w/tax, this is a good buy.The closures are less than perfect, but superior to the competition in this product class. Foam is almost laughable, but additional foam is also only negligibly expensive. Shell is better than average and overall build is, again, better than the bigger brands that produce similar items.Haven't used for airline travel, but have transported my rifle to and from the range several times. Holds up just fine. With an extra four dollars-worth of craft foam, the rifle, extra mags, and a waterproof ammo can transport without moving inside the closed case.

5 stars for size. I needed a gun case that is TSA compatible, smaller, and will fit inside of a duffle bag. This is it.1 star for foam. I just ordered from Amazon a higher quality foam because the egg shell foam used is of very low quality. This foam will NOT protect my rifle because the second I set the case upright I can hear the gun shift downward. The foam is so thin that there is nothing to cut. This forced me to order a much higher quality foam for around $20. The outside of the box to the case showed that it is made by Guangzhou Te Ying Commercial Development Co. Ltd. This explains the nice photos. The foam matters in the event the case is dropped hard. No one wants their rifle bouncing around in a gun case through multiple airports and numerous baggage handlers.Lock holes. 3 stars. The lock holes have a small diameter. A small diameter shackle is needed. The lock shackle in my opinion needs to fit the hole with a slight amount of twist. So, now I have to find new locks. My 6mm locks will not go into the hole. I am guessing that the holes are around 4mm. The hole is a snug 5 mm.3 stars. Quality of the plastic. The case seems hard enough and I am hoping that it stands up to the abuse of airline handling. It seems tough enough to handle most issues. This is definitely not a high quality plastic.It just so happens that it is near impossible to find a case of this size. The pictures of it sure fooled me, but..but I plan to keep it and see about upgrading the foam and provide the proper locks. Tucked inside of a duffle bag should help protect it. It does close tightly. I will pre-check it out with TSA on an upcoming trip to my local airport. TSA has been great about pre-checking my gun carrying cases in the past.All of us who carry guns NEED to be sure a case will pass inspection... period. More later after i formally travel with it.I love my other gun case from Amazon, but it is much heavier and larger. However, it carries my rifle tucked in a safe cocoon and nothing moves no matter the abuse. The case will take a high drop and not be impacted at all.

So my father needed a gun case that would be airline- & TSA-approved for his rifle. I ordered the 49.29" case due to the length of the firearm and the necessity of needing to lock it. Additionally, I wanted to get something that would provide adequate protection for airline baggage handling. Nothing against people who work baggage handling, mind you. I'm just saying stuff can happen. Anyway...The exterior of the case is pretty solidly built. The hinges are not the highest quality, but sturdy enough. This size of case (49.29") has 2 padlock holes and a comfortable, sturdy handle. The four latches secure the two halves of the case well. I have not done any kind of water test, but it appears that while the case is not 100% waterproof, it will handle incidental rain fine. Just don't throw it in a lake or anything.For the inside, I actually like the pluck foam option of this case. Since the rifle is a bolt-action, the case would not fully shut when all the foam was in. So, I laid the rifle in the case and "traced" around it by lightly separating the foam squares as close to the rifle as I could. Then, I removed the rifle and gently removed the pluck foam inside the trace, keeping it as whole as possible. There was a reason for this, which I will explain momentarily.After removing the pluck foam, I placed the rifle back inside the case. It fit nicely, except for one problem that is typical of case like this: The convolute foam in the lid is thick, as is the pluck foam in the middle. But the bottom layer is so thin that it provides almost no protection for the firearm against the bottom of the case. So much so that I could hear the firearm rattle slightly when the case was closed up. Not a good situation for travel, to say the least.However, I had a solution! Since the pluck foam I had taken our was still in one piece, I was able to rip off some "blocks" and lay them sideways in the cutout. These blocks snug the rifle into the foam in 3 dimensions and secure it very well. If you check out the pictures, you can see what I mean. Note: I did add one more "block" to the receiver area of the cutout and spaced them appropriately. You can see both of them in the 2nd pic under the front of the scope and just behind the adjustment knobs.To sum up: I like this case. It's sturdy, lockable and easy to carry. The only reason I took off 1 star is because the bottom layer of foam is so thin. Other than that, it should serve it's purpose nicely for airline travel and use in the field. I would recommend this case.
