It is a bit too shallow and comes out easily from the rod being hammered. However, once you get used to it does the job okay.

This ground rod driver fits as expected and works fine into rocky clay. Beats a sledge hammer any day, and is worth 10x its price in labor costs alone.

This fits my Bosch hammer drill and works well for driving rods. I had no problem driving an 8-inch piece of rebar into the ground to hold pavers in place. I like that it has a recessed area to make holding it onto the rod easier.

I picked up this ground rod driver as I had a project to mount and install a new radio antenna and needed a proper grounding rod installed. I have a manual driver for banging poles into the ground but wanted to give this a shot and see how my hammer drill would work. The ground where I needed to install my 8ft rod was wet following the rain and I also turned the hose water on to help loosen the ground more for driving the rod. I don’t have an SDS model as the driver description stated but wanted to see how well my regular hammer drill would work. I was able to start the rod and get it down about 3 feet. It was still going but slowly and my arms were starting to wear out along with my hammer drill battery, so I converted over to my manual driver to finish off the drive. The ground rod driver is very solid and had no issue working the ground rod. It doesn’t show any signs of wear so I believe this would be an amazing way to drive the rod completely if you have the right drill to do it. I’ll borrow a friends drill who has a Hilti meant for this and give it a go on my next rod driving adventure.

I am always surprised when I like something this simple this much. I don't often drive rods or rebar into the ground, but when I have to, it's never fun... until now. This is so much simpler than a hand-driven rod using a sledge or hammer. I'll be honest, because I only had one rod to drive, I considered just grabbing a hand sledge and devoting 5 minutes to getting it in the soil. Instead, I got out an extension cord and broke open the case for my rotary hammer drill and grabbed this rod driver. he job was done in less than 2 minutes and I wasn't exhausted or breathing heavy. If you have a lot of rods to drive, this is the obvious solution, but I want to also say that if you only have one, this is still the right thing to use! I may not need it again for a long time, but I am never going back to a hand sledge when a solution like this is available to me!
