Except for the most twisted types of wood, this thing works good.

This thing is what every other wedge dreams about being. I have Hickory, oak, and cherry in my yard. Most are 3-4 foot rounds. Using normal steel wedges. Top brands even they always squirt back out. Or come out the side. This aluminum one just keeps biting in. I would say three to 4 big hits and your blasting it through the bottom of the round. It is thicker but the twist makes the difference. I was worried about denting the top too bad when blasting it with the maul, held up great. Spend the money and get one of these.

Was skeptical at first because the wedges are aluminum. After splitting some tough white oak I've found the twist in the wedge definitely helps to split the toughest wood quickly and efficiently. At the bottom of the wedge is reverse grooves. I found that they help hold the wedge in the wood while starting out when driving the wedge. I had three types of steel wedges I was using besides the aluminum ones. The steel wedges would not stay in the wood and sometimes bounced out shooting back towards me. The twist in the aluminum wedges give it a very quick splitting of the wood do to the wedge rapidly expanding the space or crack. I really like the wedges. They do mushroom at the top and wear quicker by far then a steel wedge. But I was also using a nine pound sledgehammer so it has a lot of striking force. By far the safety factor of not having to strike steel on steel and having it possibly shatter of shards of steel is well worth it. The main reason I bought these wedges was for safety but quickly I found out the are a splitting machine. Definitely will never but another type of wedge again.

Very expensive but a good and necessary piece of equipment if you split a lot of wood

This is the best splitting wedge out there....The metal ones don't even compare.....Worth every penny.

As strong as steel wedge, even in hard and twisted wood.
