I bought this kit for my 2004 A4 with a leaking water pump and gave it to my mechanic to install. He said parts were well made and went on without issue. The only negative thing is that it took 6 weeks from notification it was shipped to delivery. It spent 3 of those weeks stationary without any update at all. I would buy again despite the long shipping time.

Exactly what I needed to replace the timing belt and water pump. No issues, all went together pretty well. Quality looked good. It's been several months since I installed this kit so I cant comment on longevity yet.

It fits perfectly on my VW Passat 2003. None of the parts were missing or broken. All pieces fit into car without resistance or issue. Would recommend for anyone with the Passat 2002 or 2003 they might need it. Also price is great!

I would give a 100000 negative stars if I could. Stay away from gates products and this kit especially this kit. It almost destroyed my 1.8t engine. The Belt was not cut properly and wobbled like crazy on the cam gear. Sounds like these kits are known for factory defects stay far away from gates!!👎👎👎

The pump is made in China, but it looked like good quality, I will have to rely on Gates quality assurance.

I've used Gates timing belt kits on my Subarus, and I trust them to use on all my cars. I'm glad they had a kit for my Audi A4. The only problem with Gates kits is I can never find a good datasheet on them before I buy, and I never really know what's in them until I get them. The installation instructions are typically a single sheet that covers many years and models. However, I was pleasantly surprised that this kit came with a little booklet with diagrams showing torque values for all the screws and bolts that are typically removed for doing a 1.8T timing belt - I never got torque values in the Subaru kits.Kit contains:1. The eccentric tensioner pulley, with NTN bearings. It also came with an eccentric bushing and pre-loading installation tool that didn't work with my AWM engine, so I re-used my original bushing.2. The water pump has a metal impeller and is marked "Gates", and comes with the o-ring seal. The water pump I pulled out of the car had a failed o-ring seal, so coolant was leaking down to the crank sprocket.3. The linear tensioner is also marked "Gates". I has a small release bar that can be kept in place and removed after the timing belt covers are re-installed.4. The belt fit perfectly, and was similar quality to what I got in the Subaru kits.

Many folks out there I'm sure right now are compemplating doing this repair and or facing a huge expense. $1200-$1500 repair through the dealer for a timing belt service cost. I wanted to change everything behind the belt, water pump, tensioner, cam pulley, and belt. I did not want a plastic water pump impeller and I didn't want a cheap chinese copy of parts to put on my car. I found this kit and decided to purchase this timing belt kit and have always have good luck with gates products. The good news is the water pump has the metal impeller construction that I had wanted, the tensioner and tensioner pulley are well made, (made in japan, but similar to the tensioner on a Subaru 2.5, well made) and the belt made in USA. Take your time with this repair. I started at 8am on a Saturday, by 10 am I had the fender liners out, the bottom bumper off and the front carrier pulled forward. I took a break, had lunch, went back out and started again at around 1pm, replaced the water pump, (replaced thermostat purchased previously) and pulled the old tensioner, and other parts out and replaced them with the parts in this kit. I found the harmonic balancer a small challenge, mine was corroded on, (only have to remove the 4 allen bolts hold on the pulley), after about 3 attempts (kept on getting the belt aligned 1 tooth off) I finally got all timing marks aligned up. The biggest challenge with setting the pretension gap on the tensioner. I found that by setting the cam pulley tab to about the 3 oclock position, it was easier to adjust and bring it back. Once you pull the pin on the tensioner, I found a channel locks a great tool to recompress the tenioner,..Slowly compress and get your 6mm -8mm gap with a allen tool and you'll be all set, This is a all day job, but, doing this yourself (certainly need to do this job right) will save you some serious cash. Just read the forums and take your time, this is not a difficult repair, just time consuming. I bought sandwich bags and as parts came off marked each bag with a sharpie to know what the hardware I pulled off was for and where it went. I worked alone, but having a helper would save time for sure. I would buy this kit again when this time arises, or if my neighbor buys this car and needs a timing belt job...
