Gates is always great IMO, but the reason i score this high is because of the overall price for same product, so really it's the seller that stands out to me. This went together as expected with no issues. Because it's purchased in Canada, should warranty be needed, it will be less hassle.,(past eperience.)

Time for a timing belt (no pun intended!) for my Kia Rio. The dealer wants over $100.00 for the belt alone, saying I need not change tensioner and roller, even though the mechanic has to remove both of them to replace the belt...Off to Amazon - I do that a lot lately... I found this kit, with a US made Gates belt, and both the roller and tensioner, for less than half the price of the belt alone at the dealer. No brainer. The belt goes in as soon as the weather breaks so I can ride my motorcycle while the car's in the shop.As an aside.. These small motors in Kia, Hyundai and many other cars use what is called an "interference" engine. Simply put, if the timing belt breaks, the valves stay open, and crash into the pistons, basically destroying the engine. Even though Kia and Hyundai warrant the motor for 100,000 miles, they require the belts to be changed at 60,000 miles. This is a regular service item, and if not done, is not warranted for damage. You need to get this done at 60K! If it breaks at 60,001 miles, you are hosed.

Installed this Gates kit in my Sister's 08 hyundai accent with 69k miles. $38..too cheap it seems! It seems to be a fine quality belt but I think the OEM belt is even better after comparing it to the new. But for the money....you cant go wrong. The kit installed easily (just carefully line up the crank and cam marks where indicated and double check it. In hindsight however, and after inspecting the original almost 7yr old belt very carefully, I would have left the OEM belt in there until 90k miles or 9 yrs. It was in PERFECT condition. Pliable, no different than the brand new one Gates belt, condition-wise! Unless you drive very hard/ very high speed, or most take only take short duration commutes, or live in extreme cold or hot temps, I would NOT replace at 60K miles. I also carefully inspected the crank & cam oil seals and the water pump seep hole and NO evidence of any seepage/ leakage...so I left them in place. I would recommend you skip the 60 k interval (do coolant change, however!) and instead, change the timing belt kit, seals, and water pump at 90k/9years, and every 60k thereafter IF using aftermarket parts. That being said...keep in mind however, if you are the original owner...and you document ALL service (and use only OEM parts, you must do at 60k or you will VOID your 10/100k (original owner only) powertrain warranty. I also drained and replenished the coolant with 50/50 premix longlife coolant. If you dont use premix...be sure to use only DISTILLED water when you mix with regular long-life coolant. It pays in the long run to do so.
