This stuff is clearly the pipe dope you use when you are done messing around, and I was done messing around with my water heater when the drain valve was leaking after two different repairs. I put a few wraps of teflon, slathered this stuff on there, and cranked it down. No leak.The threads on the female side weren't in great shape either, even after getting cleaned out and chased with a tap. This stuff is CHUNKY, and I imagine those chunks are what helps seal off imperfections in the threads.I imagine this isn't for, like, homeowners to be putting on their water heaters, but it absolutely worked like a champ. Rated to 10k so I suppose I can take it to work with me and use it on hydraulic fittings too.

I used this on 2” & 2 1/2” black pipe for hydraulic lines. Gasoila is the best sealing compound that I have found.
