These should NEVER be used alone for circuit protection. They MUST be used with another voltage limiting component in series to prevent a current runaway (when they activate these GDT resistance drops to near zero.) A varistors (MOV) in series for instance would work to prevent a runaway. Correct voltage selection is critical as well as total wattage.
