i needed to make a provision on the water exit of my boat engine for temp sender. if you were to screw it directly into the 1/8 pipe hole it would block if not stop water flow. to fix this i tapped the hole to 1/4 pipe, used an adapter, 1/4 to 1/8 pipe and it puts the sender end right at the water with no restriction. works flawlessly.
