The mechanic said it worked well. He had some issues however he indicated that it was probably the pump seating and not the expansion valve. It took a little while to cool down now gets below 32 degrees.

I installed a new OEM Sanden compressor, a four seasons brand drier and expansion valve. After evacuating and recharging the system, it seemed to cool well and the pressures looked normal, but it was also 50F outside. The system cooled great until it was over 70F outside. As a tech for a japanese car dealership, This one left me scratching my head. The pressures looked good. at 82F 145/30 PSI but the vent temp was only 60F and the suction pipe was barely cold. The valve was not supplying enough liquid refrigerant to the evaporator. while the compressor was working correct under what it assumed was a light load. I went to a wrecking yard and picked up a used expansion valve. I evacuated and recharged the system. Now at 82F my vent temp is 45F with gauge readings of 150/30PSI.If you want more details why keep reading.I should never have replaced this when i replaced my compressor. My compressor pressure control valve failed (a common issue on cars using sanden SD7V16 compressors) Most 1993 to 2004 VW cars use this variable displacement compressor. Its a purely Mechanical variable is placement system. Unlike newer systems that control compressor displacement based on evaporator temperature, early VD compressors are designed to hold low side pressure around 25-30PSI with the expansion valve controlling liquid flow into the evaporator. In a system with a fixed displacement compressor or a fixed orifice tube, pressures and temperature relationship make diagnosis straight forward. Its the two variables in the same system that make these cars hard to diagnose even by seasoned technicians. Fortunately This systems have been almost phased in new cars.In fairness to amazon: They were great and set me another valve to try but it did the same thing. Of course by the time I figured out what was wrong, its past the return period, So now I nice paper weight on my desk.
