Actual Socket Diameter of a 1-1/4" Cross Fitting
Why is are PVC fitting sockets bigger than their named size?
PVC sizes get their name from the inner diameter of the PVC pipe as they are nominal, or 'in name only'. If you add the thickness of the wall on each side of the pipe, the outside diameter of the PVC pipe will always be larger that the actual PVC size.
What will this 1-1/4" Cross fit?
Important PVC Size Information
This 1-1/4" Cross Furniture Grade PVC Fitting will fit over the end of standard 1-1/4" Size Schedule 40 plumbing-grade or Furniture Grade PVC pipe, which has an outside diameter of 1.660" or 1-5/8".
- Connects up to four (4) 1-1/4" PVC pipe segments for internal support or cross-member reinforcement.
- Pipe inserts inside of the fitting.
- Fits standard 1-1/4" Schedule 40 PVC pipe.
- Not compatible with CTS or CPVC style pipe, EMT conduit or wood dowels.
How to Use 4-Way PVC Cross Fittings
When to use Standard Crosses
Furniture Grade 4-Way Crosses connect up to four (4) segments of PVC pipe to make internal support or cross-member structures. PVC pipe can be inserted directly into each socket, creating a perfectly flat, heavy-duty, cross connection.
Insert the PVC Pipe into the Cross Fitting
Cut your PVC pipe segments to size, align the PVC pipe with the Cross socket and press it into place. Repeat for the other three sockets. If preferred, you can use clear PVC cement for a secure and permanent fit: Apply a small amount inside the Cross PVC fitting before insertion.
Tap into Place until Fully Seated in the Cross
Tap each PVC pipe until it is fully seated inside the fitting. The pipe should be inserted until it hits the stop or detent inside the fitting. You can then use the Cross in the remainder of your PVC project or build.

I bought a bunch of Formufit pipe and various fittings to construct a racing simulator cockpit. The pipe was all individually wrapped and looks new and shiny. The fitting are all in various stages of being scuffed and scratches, as if they have been in a large bin with other parts. Don't expect them to be "new" looking. This probably shows up more on black than any other color, I'd guess.On the plus side, they are completely free of markings and are relatively smooth and clean looking vs. construction grade fittings. Some of the styles (3-way, 4-way and 5-ways) you just can't get in construction grade. It would be nice if they made some Wyes.The fittings all seem to fit up nice to the pipe. I have not finished assembly so I can't comment on whether or not they are truly "4 times stronger" than construction grade materials.
