This puller is a little pricey BUT the best Moen cartridge puller on the face of the planet. I used it to pull three Moen 1222 cartridges from house showers. All were in high mineral water service. One was 5 years old and two were 17 years old and all were very tightly held by the mineral deposits. This cartridge puller removed all of them with no problems. I would highly recommend.

Ordered the Flowrite ONA Puller Premiere to remove a 20 year old Moen Posi-Temp Cartridge #1222. It came over night. There is no way I could have removed that old cartridge without this tool. Even with the puller the cartridge was very hard to remove because of lime build up. Once the cartridge was out, cleaned out the lime build up in the valve cartridge tube. Lubricated the new Moen 1222 cartridge & installed. The Shower valve works like new and no leaks. If your Moen Cartridge has been in service for many years, DO NOT BUY the cheaper tools they will not work. The Flowrite ONA Puller Premier is a little pricey but well worth it. I still have another shower valve to repair.

This is the only tool that works effectively with removing the typical moen valve. Took me literally 2 minutes to get the old valve out and new one in. Don’t waste your time or money with any other tool.

Other reviews have called this a Godsend and I can’t disagree. My shower uses the brass sleeve 1200 cartridge and changing it out has always been a nightmare, but this time was worse. I went too long between changes and the cartridge was very stuck. Trying to rotate it broke the brass tabs. Trying to pull it yanked out the core/stem (item on the right in my photo). I was left stuck with the hollow sleeve and no way in the world to get it out. I ordered this tool as a last resort and it worked like a charm. In the video that comes on a QR code with the item, the instructor said that the situation I was up against is ‘where the tool really shines’. He wasn’t lying. The grip stuck to the inside of the sleeve and turned so easily I thought it was turning free inside of the sleeve. I took a close look while turning and the sleeve was turning. I kept rotating and pulling and it came right out. Brilliant tool!

I've used the standard Moen cartridge puller for years and it's almost ways a huge struggle to get the 1222 cartridge out, so I finally broke down and got this pretty expensive tool, and I gotta say it worked like a charm. Usually it would take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour of non-stop pulling and tugging to remove a stuck cartridge, but with this it was less than 10 minutes. After the cartridge came out the 2 rubber gaskets were still stuck in the valve, and the back 20% of the cartridge actually broke off b/c it couldn't get past those gaskets. That just shows how much force was required to get the cartridge out. I actually heard something cracking while very slowly turning the crank, and was a bit worried for a second that perhaps the stem was going to pull out and leave the cartridge shell behind. I think it's this design that puts no side to side or rotating stress on the stem that allows the stem to remain in place while the cartridge is being slowly ripped from the valve. Getting the 20% of the cartridge that broke off out is what took most of the 10 minutes. Conclusion: with this tool you'll never need to fear removing a 1222 cartridge again! The only complaint I have is that 2 of the 5 pieces in this set are unnecessary for removing a 1222 cartridge, and while including them makes it easier for the manufacturer in that they don't need to carry the parts separately, I'm basically paying for 2 pieces that I don't need, and given the high price of this thing, not having them would surely cut the cost a fair amount.

Had an old Moen 1222 positemp cartridge [probably original to the house] - 21 yrs old. We have well/hard water, so I feared the worst. Hot water also didnt work on this bathroom from when we purchased.I finally got around to changing the cartridge. I started with pliers and the Moen twist/nut, no dice of course.I then had a generic/knockoff Moen puller from Amazon ($15 Chinese cheapie) and at first glance I knew it wouldnt generate the leverage/force needed because its grooves didnt sit over the cartridge ears correctly. After MUCH torque and pulling/twist, I got it to budge maybe 1mm.Here comes the ONA Puller, highly recommended across multiple DIY Plumber forums/questions/posts and Reddit as well. Its premium/expensive, but believe me, IT IS WORTH IT.I went back to the stuck cart, sprayed some PB blaster, just in case, let it sit for an hour, and then tried to the new tool. No problem. Didnt feel like I was over working/torquing against the shower valve, and slowly pulled the old cartridge out. No $200+ plumber service call, and with the new cartridge, my water flows nicely and we finally have hot water in the guest bath.BUY THIS TOOL FOR MOEN CARTRIDGES (1222/1222B/1225)

This tool is a HUGE help in removing the Moen Posi-Temp 1222 cartridge!!! Years ago I remember it taking me FIVE hours (and a lot of bad words) to remove a Moen cartridge in the bath tub faucet, so I was really dreading replacing the cartridge this time around. As I feared, I couldn’t get it out. I then ordered the Moen cartridge puller but after reading other reviews, I immediately cancelled that order and ordered this one instead. I am so glad I spent the extra money because the ONA works great! I was able to remove the stuck cartridge in only a few minutes. Part of the cartridge did break off but I was easily able to remove it with needle nose pliers. I was able to complete the cartridge replacement and now have a drip free faucet.
