It is very solid and heavy. It likely will do a good job protecting documents from a fire. The locking mechanism is a rather lightweight single tang. This is a safe that can easily be pried open and is not well designed for protecting valuables.

SureSeal by FireKing SS104-A is a briefcase like fire resistant protective case that is the right size for letter and legal sized documents.Pros:- Easily accommodates letter and legal sized documents.- It appears to be sturdy.- It is heavy, which means, it has sufficient material inside to ensure the contents remain safe for a reasonable amount of time.- It closes well.- The fit and finish is good.- The lid has a compressed air delay mechanism to prevent the lid from slamming onto someone’s fingers, but for this to work, the lid must be opened completely. (N.B.)Cons:- The keys are made of metal but the grip is made of some kind of plastic with a loop and it seems that loop can easily break.- It is not as easy to carry about because it is very heavy.See pictures.Overall: It is recommended and the manufacturer should supply all steel keys.

This is a heavy and robust fire safe and met my expectations. I needed the legal size interior to meet my recipient's expectations and this was the only one I could find. Though expensive, the fire and water ratings are excellent and, if you have moderate strength, the whole thing is portable.

I chose FireKing over other brands because the FireKing has two latches (independent of the lock) that securely close the lid. There is an O-Ring gasket that seals the lid to the box so should keep a waterproof seal. It has a secure quality feel.The first unit I received had a cracked case (see photo) but Amazon was easy to work with for a replacement. I mention this so that you will check yours carefully when it arrives.

This is very nice case in every way. Compared to similar Sentry and 1 Alerts, at local stores, it wins easily. But it's sooo heavy, at 28 pounds, plus contents. The 0.27 cf case exactly fits 8.5" wide paper, but if paper is in an envelope you must arch it up, or down slightly to fit width. Be sure you have a place for it before buying. It is just too heavy to carry to/from the attic or crawl space unless you're a weight lifter. We even considered hiding in an inground sprinkler valve box, but it's just too large and heavy to fit easily, and may not be 100% weathertight. Think of carrying your full size computer tower, but heavier. It is too big to hide easily in our house or garage, and too obvious for a thief to overlook. The lock is fine for keeping kids out, but a thief would break easily. We bought with great expectations of cancelling our safe deposit box. But after considering the weight and difficulty hiding, we're keeping our safe deposit box. We won't ship back as it's just too heavy to rewrap, carry and pay for return. Won't try for free shipping as there is nothing wrong with the safe at all; just our lack of forethought. So we will sell to a weight lifter on Craigslist, and just take the loss.

This is a badly designed product and the company has poor customer service. Look somewhere else if you want a reliable safe that will last many years.I will echo what others have said about the safe being fragile and weak. The hinges and latches are all made of cheap plastic, the key is made of some super lightweight metal that might as well be plastic, the safe offers almost no physical security, and instead of inspiring confidence I am constantly worried that this safe will destroy my documents due to moisture build-up. Furthermore, on my second use, the key snapped in half and the company wants a fortune to replace it -- I am now worried about the longevity of the product as a whole and that the product will become completely useless should the second key break as well.I thought that spending a bit more money on this brand over something like SentrySafe would net me a higher quality product, but I was SO wrong. I will never purchase another product from FireKing. I've used SentrySafe products for decades and I've never had a single issue with them.This unit itself is very heavy (and it comes with a Prop. 65 warning- so maybe it's made of lead), which makes it pretty hard to move around and use under normal circumstances. The requirement that the safe be opened and aired out is ridiculous (especially due to the weight), but if you don't do it then all of your super important documents/items will get mold or moisture damage. In an attempt to remedy this design defect I purchased silica moisture absorbers, which added to the overall cost of the unit, but I am still constantly worried about this safe destroying my family's passports, birth certificates, social security cards, and other irreplaceable documents. Check out many of the other reviews that discuss this problem at length.This isn't a product that you can keep hidden away and only access a couple times a year, so considering that you'll need to be using/opening this particular brand of safe every week (other brands don't have these same issues), the cheap plastic parts are even more concerning. On only my second time opening this safe, the key sheared off in the lock. I was slowly moving the safe from the "upright" position to being flat on the floor so that I could air it out, and the key (while in the lock) hit my shoe. It didn't fall, it wasn't moving at a high rate of speed, none of that -- but the key snapped in half under the weight of the product itself. Fortunately I was able to get the broken key piece of out the lock so I could get to my documents, but this is clearly another design defect.I reached out to the customer service department to ask about getting a replacement key and received no response for more than two weeks. I sent a follow-up request 16 days later asking again for a replacement or to at least let me know which key blank to use so I could get a new key made. I was told that I HAD TO purchase the Sure Seal keys from FireKing, that they were running about 2-3 weeks on backorder, and that they were $35 per set of 2 keys (and there is no online option available to order these keys).Now I'm not a locksmith, but I do know a thing or two about locks. This product offers absolutely no physical security (except maybe from young children) and can literally be opened with a paperclip. The key itself is SUPER low security and SUPER low quality, and I would be shocked if it wasn't a generic key purchased in bulk for a few cents each. It's probably available on ebay but you have to know the key blank name to find it (which FireKing won't provide). The fact that they want to charge $35 for two keys is insane, but I'm guessing that a lot of people pay it because they don't know any better or maybe think the key for their safe is actually unique (it's not).(As a side note, it does look like FireKing has some higher-security offerings using Medeco and Tubar locks -- these keys are more complicated to make and are generally pretty unique. Getting a set of these high-security keys also costs $35 for two and I would not have a problem paying that for these keys. These keys are also made out of quality metal so they don't snap in half under light pressure.)I would have no problems paying $5 or maybe even $10 for a set of replacement keys, which should cover the cost of the keys themselves, the postage, and the labor to mail them. I will certainly not pay $35, especially considering the high probability that they will break again in the future. What would be ideal is that FireKing could spend a few more cents for each key and actually include keys with the product that don't snap in half, potentially rendering the safe useless and your documents inaccessible.It might sound like I'm frustrated -- and I am. I will GLADLY pay more for a quality product that will serve me well for many years (especially one made in the USA), but this is an unacceptable design defect that FireKing seems to be using to milk more money from their customers.After receiving the response from FireKing customer service, I let them know that I wouldn't be paying $35 for two replacement keys and instead I would just send the product back to Amazon and write a review warning other potential customers of the issue.On the threat of a negative review, the CS rep did reach out to her supervisor to ask how she should handle the issue and the supervisor did offer to send a set of replacement keys at no charge (when they were back in stock). Fortunately (or unfortunately?) the CS rep forwarded me the whole email chain where I could see the supervisor's response: "It was his error that he broke the key but he is not going to see it this way. So do not even go there with him on this issue."Clearly FireKing takes no responsibility for a badly designed and defective product. I have lost all confidence in this product to protect my most valuable documents and I will be declining the offer of a free replacement key. I will be returning this product and warning anybody in the market for a fire safe to stay far away from FireKing products.

I spent a long time choosing this chest. We needed a safe for home and I looked at many reviews on Amazon and other sites. Some people wrote reviews about safes that they had trouble closing. Other people had trouble with hinges. Some said theirs were too small for 8 1/2 x 11 pages or that they had trouble with the keys or that theirs lacked a handle. Many had no troubles or complaints at all. What we wanted to do was have a safe inside a safe. Odd, I know. The bank in our town is closing and we wanted to put all the stuff from our safe deposit box inside of our enormous gun safe. The gun safe is like a bank vault with a bolt locking system on all four door edges. It is fireproof and waterproof, so I wanted a safe to go inside that was also fireproof and waterproof. I chose this one. It had only positive reviews. I am pleased with the construction. The front latches work easily as do the keys. It had space inside for a 9 x 12 envelope to lay almost flat and had plenty of room for all the items we had to put in it. It is completely rectangular, no higher edge on top, so it slid nicely inside the expensive gun safe, lying flat as the instructions stated it should. It does have a handle for carrying. It would slide easily into a closet or under a bed. I am not sure if it could be bolted to the floor as we didn't need that. It is very heavy. I think it weighs 28 pounds. I am pleased with my choice. It works for us.
