I was unaware of the vast swathes of the internet enraged by this - and other - games that dare to feature a non-white protagonist. Or a woman. Or LGBT+ people, incidentally. And, as somebody who ticks none of these boxes, I thoroughly enjoyed Dustborn, beginning to end. It's a solid 4 through 4.5 for fans of the genre, bumped up a little in response to what I saw in the other reviews. The game mechanics follow in the footsteps of both the latter-day Telltale and Square Enix's Life is Strange. I enjoyed my fair share of the former and watched my partner play the latter. The story has some interesting, if predictable, beats and the graphics are wonderfully realised, with cell-shaded character models and colourful effects. It's a big heap of Saturday-matinee popcorn fun. Is it Red Dead Redemption 2? Well, no. But it's certainly worth the entry price and it's as enjoyable as the latest predictable blockbuster flick - and that's coming from a Tarkovsky addict.Call me old fashioned, but I let others enjoy any game of their choosing and I let people live their lives however they so choose. I once enjoyed Call of Duty, now I don't. If I were to harangue those that do, it would be, quite frankly, weird. Those same people throwing right-wing conservative buzzwords in the reviews are, to my mind, really weird.Nobody is coming to snatch away your copies of Dudebro Shooter or Pistol McTitus IV. Your taste really isn't under attack. Leave people alone to enjoy their pick of this, the golden age of gaming. Get on with your lives people.

As someone who appreciates roadtrip movies, a good mix of fun and serious dialog, and complex characters that go through a process of personal development, I loved this game.Avoid this game if:- The idea of playing a character with flaws and a complex personality that evolves throughout the game is off-putting to you.- You feel offended by the idea of having a diverse cast in a computer game.- You expect that a game with diverse characters needs to explicitly bring up diversity issues in its story.- You can enjoy computer games, specifically, their combat elements, only if they are challenging.Play this game if you:- Can appreciate a mix of different gameplay elements, including Telltale-style puzzles, extended interactive dialogs, combat, and Guitar-Hero-style music games- Enjoy the idea of deeply exploring a setting in an alternative universe with nods to our current digitalized world and its challenges- Find comic aesthetics appealing- Enjoy a tongue-in-cheek kind of humor
