A classic for good reason, loud and clear!

A lot of my favorite players use these speakers and for good reason. The are honest speakers. They give what you put into them. If your amp isn’t good or your playing isn’t tight these speakers probably aren’t for you. However, if you have a decent sounding amp, and put the time in on your playing they sound absolutely amazing. Fast attack, great bass, and singing high end.

Even a supercar is only as good as its tires. An electric guitar's sound emanates from the speakers. If you test a bunch of overdrive pedals and they all sound the same, try listening through the EVM12L on a clean low-distortion amp - you will definitely hear the difference. Just like a kid given a barely-playable bad-sounding beginner guitar by his parents, that kid won't be inspired to learn since the sound is bad no matter what the kid does. In exactly the same way, if your speaker (and amp) cannot produce the sound of your electric guitar and fingers accurately, you will find it very hard to appreciate your own sound/music or learn fast. Realizing this, I stopped using all of my smaller Name-Brand speakers. The 200W Classic EVM12L is voiced for guitar. Whereas the 300W EV-Black Label is more accurate in spec to the Alexander Dumble's choice for speakers, which were originally meant for PA use. I think the secret of the EVM12L is the 2.5 inch voice coil. Other speaker brands are usually smaller at around1.75 inches, but again remember that speakers and electric guitar pickups have a very specific 'voice'. You'll have to listen and choose which sounds best to your ears. I personally prefer the Classic EVM12L, on my home-made Thiele cab.

After years of reading gushing reviews of this legendary speaker I couldn’t stand the curiosity and longer and bought one to pair with my vht d50 Dumble clone in a sealed prs 112 cab. My first preconceived worry vanished the second I plugged in; that guitar amp distorted tone was going to sound heinously synthetic like running into your home stereo hifi speaker. No! Instead all the delicious nuance and creamy gourmet distorted tone came through perfectly and without a trace of “hifi” weirdness. The second was that it would sound dead and lifeless at low volume. Wrong again! All the chime in clean tones and growling distortion textures comes to life at any and every volume levels. Previous speaker after trying several was the humble Celestion v type which I did and do consider a good match but the evm delivered the same experience and so much more and here’s the key : at any and all volumes and NOT morphing into a different creature at every volume level. I only had to crank treble and presence a bit more. How many times have you Dialed in a great tone then cranked the amp more and have a nasty mess rear its head? That was the speaker not the amp! The folks that have used this speaker for this and other amps knew what they were doing! I briefly cranked my favorite metal amp -Randal rd45 into it and had exactly the same experience -it puts out everything you love about the amp and consistently at EVERY volume. Not fighting all those peaks and notches in ordinary speakers has proved to be a sigh of relief. Imagine all this time you’ve had a graphic eq in your effects loop set to to all kinds of wacked out peaks and notches and you’ve been trying to eq your amp around that. This evm removes that while still having a guitar friendly tonal flavor perhaps it had a very very broad and gentle midrange lift with rock solid bass. Never going back dr Jekel and Mr Hyde Celestion speakers again!

I like most guitarists spend an incredible amount of time fussing over and evaluating music equipment and every little piece of gear that ends up in the signal chain. Achieving the ultimate tone is for the most part unachievable and is very comparative to finding the Holy Grail, photographing the Loch Ness Monster or spotting Sasquatch in the Pacific Northwest. There are however some gear purchases including amps, pickups, stomp boxes, cables, etc. that do make a vast improvement in tone. The EVM12L is perhaps the best purchase that I have made thus far in improving and achieving that elusive and ultimate tone. For one thing this speaker is rated at 200 watts and can handle just about any load a power amp can throw at it. It is a very beefy, well made speaker that is heavier than most drivers and could probably survive an atomic blast. One 8 ohm speaker was all that I needed for the Thiele cabinet enclosure that I put it in. The best attribute to this speaker is that it is very clean and renders no coloring or shading of your tone. This speaker is designed to accurately deliver what signal that your guitar and amp are offering up. I was totally amazed at this principle when I fired up the cabinet with my Fuchs TDS amp and the tiny little Thiele cabinet. Being a Jazz-Blues-Fusion style player, I was totally blown away of how crystal clear and articulate this speaker was right out of the box. I have tried just about every Celestion, Jensen, Tone Tubby, Eminence, etc. speaker on the market in just about every open and closed cabinet enclosure known to humankind. Finally, my quest happily ended when I bought the EVM12L!There is a reason that many players like Larry Carlton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and a host of other guitarists used this speaker. The player no longer has to worry about finding that perfect speaker-amp-cabinet combination. There is no breakup characteristics or tone altering elements to contend with which ultimately make my rig simpler to play and configure. I can now rely on my guitar and amp to do the job that they were intended to do. For the first time I can really hear the difference between my Fenders and Gibsons and consequently spend less time "dialing" in their tone. All that I can say is that this really works for me. I now have a whole arsenal of cabinets and speakers for sale because this one speaker does it all.

Speaker was missing the round spacer used when back mounting. I will see how good customer service is. Speaker sounds great with 1963 ampeg reverberocket, but had to front mount spkr in seperate cabinet.
