To start with I had to use a screwdriver to wedge open the back to insert the batteries.After opening and closing a few times I was able to start using just my fingers to open but it was really frustrating at first to open the back.Once the batteries were inserted I accidently touched the button and it started running and nothing I did would stop it and had to wait for it to stop on it's own.It does open cans and basically leaves no sharp edges which is good. But it doesn't work as well as some others I have had.I also searched and found a couple of almost identical openers that were less than half the price of this one, I would have to recommend looking elsewhere.
