First off, I read some reviews, about some people had issues with cracking, but figured I would give it a try. I should have listened to the reviews, but sometimes people don't do things carefully, or are not as capable of working with certain products. But that is not the case with myself. I've done many many different home renovations and I work in the industry, as well as I build classic vehicles as a hobby. So my abilities and qualifications are more than ample.......if this product was actually workable/usable.The product is thick and i can see how some said hard to work with. I didnt mind that, and figured it would make it stronger. I was very slow and methodical on the installation of this. I even notched out of back as you can see in the last pic to actually make it hinge and bend easier, with less stress. I wasn't forcing the material as much to bend it either. I glued the face of it first and then waited a day or two before gluing the top and bottom of my beam (mine is on a mantle). They all seem to have bent fine and looked good AT FIRST, but within about a week or so they all slowly started cracking at the corners, as you can see in the first pic. It would slowly work all the way across until it would be completely separated and split from each other piece. I was able to use super glue with a silicone dust powder to fill in the cracks and sand it as you can see in some of the other pics. That seemed to have worked and i have not seen any more separation after gluing and filling in the cracks that way. But basically I would have to do the whole bend as it would slowly cracked open more and more across the whole edge.In conclusion, if i had paid full price for this I'd be quite angry and dissatisfied. The only reason I bought it, and gave it a chance, was because it was half price, because somebody returned it, probably after realizing how thick it was and too hard to work with. Again, I liked the thickness but it just does not have the flexibility to work on a square beam. It could only work on something round and I don't know what beams are round. So in my opinion, it's completely useless and should not be used for most applications. You're better off getting some steel from a home store or a local metal place and just hammering corners off using a block of wood.If you really want the bolt head look, get some bolts, cut the heads off, and glue them onto the metal. Of course you can weld the bolt heads on too from the back if you put a hole in the metal plate, and if you have a welder availble, as well. That is exactly what I am going to do if the super glue doesn't hold up after awhile.

If it was a rounded corner like a round beam with a large circumference it would look great. If you're needing a 90 degree, don't waste your time and money.

It’s great for wrapping something round but if you have sharp corners because it’s made out of rubber, it will not lay down. Trying to cut it and fit it defeats the purpose it’s supposed to mimic hammered steel.

It looks great but very hard to work with!! We were using these on a faux wood beam. It is not pliable. We cut the size we needed and then placed it in the microwave for 30 seconds. You have to work fast b/c it loses its heat and becomes hard to work with

Arrived in box a bit twisted- it’s very heavy, thick rubber- stiff is an understatement. Was tough to install around corners of the beam. With tacks and adhesive managed to get a good fit. We were very happy with the look. Unfortunately a week later we noticed the strap was cracking at every bend - a few were completely broken! See photos. Our beams are 20 feet off the ground and glued on so not sure what we are going to do. Patch maybe?? So high marks on appearance- they look real- fail on durability. I might add there were NO installation instructions. I think the manufacturer should have recommendations on how and what to use.

I was happy with the product at first as I covered seams on a handful of beams in my living room but just over a month later they are all splitting and tearing. An expensive waste of money. Will try and contact the manufacturer and see what they say.Edit/Follow upI’ve sent NUMEROUS emails to the company with ZERO responses. This tells me they A)know this product is JUNK B)don’t care this product is JUNK C)don’t care at all about anything similar to good customer service and D)will continue to sell junk without any consequences. Awful experience with an awful product. Thanks Ekeena Millwork

This product is much more expensive from the faux beam places. Worked like a charm though. I tried to heat it up so it would bend a little bit better, but it started to crack. Used several finish nails to tack it to the beam I built and cover the seam.

This is a perfect alternative for real metal straps. The strap was thick and a little hard to bend to a right angle, but by cutting out a shallow “V” on the backside, I was able to miter-fold it.Using the proper polyurethane adhesive in a 3-step gluing/clamping, it will be there forever. A small bead of glue showed on one side, but I touched it up with a black Sharpie and it blended perfectly.I’ve had many friend look at it and ask who did my metalwork. They were surprised when I told them the truth.Absolutely satisfied with this item.
