I have had literally over a hundred different ligatures over the years. Metal, leather, plastic, synthetic leather etc. I have learned the job of the ligature is to hold the reed evenly in place without hindering the vibrations of the mouthpiece. This greatly affects the way the saxophone responds when you play it. A bad ligature can cause your reed to seal improperly on the mouthpiece and allow air to leak out from the table of your mouthpiece causing response and intonation problems. Making it harder to blow and certain notes pitchy. Sometimes saxophonists think their mouthpiece is the problem with their intonation and poor response. When actually it could very well be the ligature that is the culprit. The ligature is a very important part of the saxophone. This particular ligature holds the reed in place at 4 points evenly and if you want to, you can reconfigure where you want the ligature to contact the reed for different tonal results. As well, the ligature has minimal contact with the mouthpiece that does not hinder the vibrations of the mouthpiece. (This is important)This is a masterfully designed ligature with one screw at the top that ensures an even and unrestrictive tightening around the reed which is important. You really can’t go wrong with this ligature. It is very good and highly recommended!

I have always wanted to try a Winslow-style ligature, and this seemed like a good option for the money. I purchased the soprano one and have been using it on an otto link mouthpiece. It fits well and is easy to customize. I like how I can adjust the location of the pegs to customize how much pressure is on one side of the reed or another. Mine also came with a cap and a very premium mouthpiece holder.
