About this item

  • Easter Red Egg Dye Greece

This package contains 1 color egg dye: Red One package makes 30 eggs total. Hard-boiled eggs, dyed deep red to symbolize the redeeming blood of Christ, are a Greek (or Eastern Orthodox) tradition at Easter. The egg is further symbolic in that it is an emblem of the Resurrection: it contains life motionless; in like manner, after being motionless in the grave, the resurrected come forth with new life. On Easter and the following week, the general greeting "Christos Anesti!" (Christ is Risen!) and the reply "Alethos Anesti!" (Truly He is Risen!) are heard among the faithful. Instructions For Making Perfectly Bright Red Easter Eggs: Choose Brown Eggs without any cracks or marks. Boil them in water (150ml of vinegar per 1lt or water) and let them cool down. Dilute the dye in 500ml hot water (60-80° C). Choose a pot/bowl with a diameter of less than 20cm. In case the dye becomes lumpy, dont worry. It's completely normal, just keep stirring until they dissolve. Place one layer of eggs at a time so they are completely covered by the solution. Stir them often and let them sit in the dye solution for 8-10 minutes. Before each "batch" give the dye a good stir. Be sure that the water stays warm because the dye is activated only by warm water. Remove the eggs and place them on an absorbent paper towel for 1-2 minutes until dry. Polish them with olive oil for extra shine. The final result depends on the quality of the cell of each egg. Keep them refrigerated.

Always have challenges getting our eggs a real deep red. This was the first time I used this brand. Worked well. Did not smell. I did leave the eggs in longer than suggested.

I needed a red dye that would come within 1-2 days. Most of the other ones were saying they were going to be here after Μεγάλη Πέμπτη. So this was exactly it!! My eggs came out nice too 😄 -I attached how they came out

Worst egg dye I have ever used in my life!!!!! Brown eggs stayed brown and white eggs are pink. And it smells absolutely gross!!! Followed directions to the T!!! Ruined Easter!!! No red eggs! I'm embarrassed to put those eggs on my table this Easter!!! You're better off buying food coloring or PAAS egg dye!!

The eggs, even after 20 minutes (double the amount of time given in the instructions,) were not more than a mere pink:( Very disappointed. Very disappointed children. We won’t have red eggs for Pascha.

This dye works only if you add vinegar and leave the eggs in longer. The eggs come out a beautiful Red when you do that

With the directions, it's seeking little water and about 9 minutes for the eggs to soak in. Turned out, we were able to do 5 eggs at a time and 9 minutes wasn't enough. I ended up leaving them for over three hours for the second time. The white eggs were more pink and the brown eggs was like fresh kinda dried period blood.
