I bought this immediately after buying my Panasonic G9 in anticipation of lower battery life when compared to DSLRs. While I haven't had a chance to try out the OEM version, the price difference was significant enough to consider this as a reasonable alternate.Straight out of the box, the grip is quite effective and changes the camera profile significantly for the better - the camera recognized the grip and it showed in the top display as well. Changing the battery is quite easy and there is very minimal flex after the grip is installed on the camera. There is a neat stowaway port next to the grip connectors which make for an effective storage of the rubber mat which covers the connection points.Overall, for the amount of money paid for this device, I think it's a very effective replacement/alternate to the OEM version and I will be hard pressed to think of a reason to spring for the higher priced version.

This grip is an exact replacement for the Panasonic equivalent at about 1/4 the price. Visually, except for the identifying label (which is hidden when attached) I defy anyone to tell the difference between this and the "real" thing. Buttons and dials work just as smoothly and cleanly as their equivalents on the G9 body. I suspect these are made by the same manufacturer on the same production line as the "real" thing, and are merely distinguished with a different label. It will take long-term use to see if there is in fact a quality difference.One minor quibble, but that would be true also for the "real" thing -the cover that protects the contact pins when not attached to the camera is small and easily lost. My solution for that is to keep a "baggy" handy to store it in so it doesn't disappear into the cracks of my camera bag when it is on the camera.

I love this grip (and for a fraction of the OEM price!). One note is that the contact points on my camera now have dimples in them (I'm sure this would happen with the OEM as well).Also, I'm not crazy about where the AF button is on the grip, but I think that's the case on any of the G9 grips.

The build quality is amazing and I bet if side-by-side, I may not be able to tell the difference between this one and the OEM. I suspect this is actually an OEM without Panasonic badging. I do not expect to use this for outdoor use since it added quite a bit of weight and bulk. I intended to use this primarily for indoor video recording.
