I’ve had a few days to test out this WEBEST pool thermometer, and so far it’s worked great and is providing an accurate temperature reading. The numbers on the temperature LCD display are large enough (about ⅝ inch tall) that I can easily read them from a distance of at least 6 feet. It’s great not having to get down on my hands and knees to fish out an “analog” thermometer to read the temperature!I’m giving this thermometer an initial rating of 5 stars. If I have any issues with durability or functionality of the thermometer, I will update this review to reflect my concerns. For now, though, I’m impressed by it.Here are a few notes:1. If you are wearing polarized sunglasses when trying to read the display, it might look like the display is not working properly. The material the display cover is made of will darken when viewed through polarized lenses. (I have the same issue with the display on my electric bike. If I wear my polarized sunglasses I can’t tell how fast I’m going because the display becomes unreadable.) So: Either wear non-polarized sunglasses or take them off when you want to read the temperature.2. The thermometer has a 1-minute cycle: Every minute it updates. I mention this because the first time you put it in the pool you might think it’s showing an incorrect temperature. Wait 60 seconds and it should show you the correct temperature after it cycles. (If you had the thermometer in your air-conditioned house before putting it in the pool for the first time, it might take more than a minute for the temperature sensor to detect the actual temperature, because the sensor is inside the plastic thermometer housing.)3. The thermometer is about 8 inches long. The bottom is weighted. I’ve had no issues with it being drawn into either of the skimmer intakes, even though I allow the thermometer to float free, rather than tethering it to a ladder or railing. The solar charging feature seems to work really well. I tested this by charging the thermometer during the day and then taking it indoors for an entire day. I left it turned on, and it was still working 24 hours after the initial charge.4. I've included a photo of the underside of the thermometer to show the button that operates to turn the thermometer on and off and to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit degrees..Initial bottom line: I would recommend this WEBEST thermometer. At the time I ordered it, the price was $9.99, which I think represents a solid value.

This is to replace a different one that never even lasted one season! This is a good sized pool thermometer, and we have high hopes it will be the last one we have to get for a while!

UPDATE: Within less than 24 hours after fully charging, the LCD display is no longer usable. All LCD segments appear lit, and even after removing from the pool, there is no angle at which the current temperature can be read. All you see is all available LCD segments. Unfortunately, switching between F. and C., and turning off then back on was not effective, rendering the thermometer of no use.Ordered this solar pool thermometer w/ LCD display hoping to have something more accurate than all the utilitarian and cutsie but not always so accurate pool thermometers we've had over the years. Liked the idea that you don't necessarily have to go into the water just to find out it's much colder than you prefer before diving in, nor do you have to get down on your hands and knees after coaxing the thermometer over to the side, just to pull it out to read it.Enter this very nice solar-powered thermometer! It actually had some charge to it right out of the box, so I started by testing it - indoors! We have an extremely accurate, scientific thermometer, lab-tested to be accurate within 0.1 degrees F. So we threw some water right out of the sink into a cup and dropped the solar thermometer in, letting it acclimate for about 5-10 minutes (the instructions say it samples the temp approx. every 1 minute). One notable details about the written details provided - this thermometer is described as being accurate within +-/- 2 degrees F. if used under most normal operating conditions (and within +/- 4 degrees F. if used in more extreme circumstances... a swimming pool definitely seemed to fall within the more standard operating conditions).Verdict: After letting the solar thermometer sit in the cup of water for a bit, it read 75.6 degrees F. You'll note from the photo that the lab-certified thermometer read 75 degrees F. at the same time (it does not display in decimals). I'd definitely say the solar temp fell well within the margin of error, in fact, it seemed spot on - SUCCESS - ACCURATE!Taking the solar thermometer outside on a bright, sunny FL day, the first thing I noticed was that, since this this thermometer does have a LCD display, as is common to LCD in bright sunlight, at many angles, it was difficult to accurately read the temperature, because the sun caused ALL LCD segments to show up. We noticed the same after dropping it into the pool. For the most part, it is clear and easy to read, IF you're at the correct angle. However, that takes nothing away from the accuracy - this brightly-colored solar thermometer, with very clean lines and not at all unappealing look bobbed along in our saltwater pool, displaying what I believe to be an accurate temp.I did have to take the included, attached braided cord off, though. We don't normally tether our thermometers, and upon tossing it into the pool (it stays perfectly upright at all times, btw, even with some wave action in the pool), we found that our surface skimmer didn't seem to want to play nicely with this new inhabitant. Especially when the skimmer gently came up upon it to check it it's new poolmate, the solar thermometer's bundled cord (I did not until it, as it was neatly bundled upon arrival)... the cord got sucked into the gentle motor of the skimmer. No damage was caused to either, but removing the cord allowed the two new pool friends to play more nicely together. The skimmer would still the thermometer around, but without the cord attached, the thermometer easily bounced off the skimmer and away.... pool bliss once again.Overall, we'll have to see how it does long-term in saltwater. The Amazon description didn't specifically mention saltwater, but most thermometers seems to be unaffected by it, so we'll have to report back with an update after we let the new thermometer bob around for some time. The LCD display is a small inconvenience for the trade-off of being able to see the current, ACCURATE temp, by simply moving around it a bit to get a clear view during bright sunlight. Much easier than having to be IN the water, or bending over just to see what the temp reads.Very pleased so far, definitely would recommend! Now we just have to decide what to name it![This items was received as a free promotional item in exchange for this review.
