The sliding shaft design of the probe is incredibly vulnerable to the slightest bit of damage to either shaft. Please be warned that this design limits the ability for the probe to be extended quickly in an emergency, let alone being extended at all. If you are carrying your probe in your pack for any amount of time, the slightest ding or bend to either of the last two shaft pieces could cause the entire device to become inoperable. In a rescue situation when seconds can mean the difference between life and death, this is unacceptable. I have had two of these probes and both became inoperable with minimal time spent in my backpack.

Was happy with this probe until it broke. Second season of use and the metal snapped at one of the joints.

Its strong, good length and super light. It could be easier to assemble in a pinch but it is fairly quick still. Best bang for your buck I'd say.
