I have used this part to replace the valve in my upstairs bath tub shower a few times. I couldn't understand why they only seemed to last 2 years. I finally figured it out, and I feel dumb that I didn't do so earlier. The bibb washer that is included with the valve is MUCH TOO SOFT. The bibb washer is the rubber ring at the very tip of this valve that pushes against the seat and shuts the water off when you close the valve. This washer is so soft that a person opening the valve can very easily open it too much and pull the head of the screw right through the bibb washer and through the end cap... causing an emergency situation where the water cannot be turned off at the tap.The solution is easy... just buy a pack of various bibb washers and replace it with a much more solid, stiff washer before installation.

Replacement of factory valve. The factory threaded escutcheon shaft has different threads.

I was disappointed when I installed these and they continued to leak. I'm very handy, I know what I'm doing with home projects. I thought this would be an easy fix. So far I've purchased 4 of these. The first two failed within 4 days leaking water continuously from the shower head until I could get two new ones placed. I was able to put the two new ones in but it still leaks. Major Bummer. Guess i'll just have to tear the wall out and install a whole new setup.

Direct replacement for my 50 year old leaky American Standard shower stems. This is the third set I have installed (all on different showers in the house). While this job went smoothly, be prepared with some time and patience as you may have to fish some pieces from the old valve if they break off. I don't know if it helped or not, but I made sure the valves were in the fully open position before I unscrewed them so that the tail end wasn't sealed and seated. I think this may have helped the old one to come out as one piece. There aren't any instructions, but it is pretty simple if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. The only special tool you will need is a long hex wrench to remove/install the valve seat.
