I like these reeds for my stock mouthpiece on my Yamaha sax for jazz band, good sound, responsive, and easy to play sharp articulations.

ces anches donne un son jazz très timbré. j'ai pris une force 3 Soft et elles sont faciles à jouer (le son sort naturellement), je retire une étoile car je les trouve assez chères. A voir en fonction de la durée de vie

I have been getting back into playing saxophone after about a 10 year hiatus. In that time D’Addario acquired Rico reeds, an boy what an improvement its been!Back in the day, only two or three of a box of ten Rico Royals would play well. With the box of Jazz Select I can play comfortably on EVERY reed! The cuts are clean and the tables are flat and the tips do not warp easily. Very pleased with these and I will be buying again when I need to resupply!

My first box of Jazz Selects was poorly cut. All of the reeds were cut off-center and were unplayable, so I gave Rico (D'Addario) two stars for poor quality control. But I have been looking for a reed that plays between a Vandoren V16 and a Java Green, so I cautiously decided to give the Jazz Selects another try.The new box is a set of Number 3 Medium French-filed reeds and I was happy to see that all five reeds were properly cut. So I started playing them. The first reed worked great right out of the box, then I tired another one - same result. I finally tried every reed in the package and out of the five reeds three of them worked great right out of the box. The other two only required a couple of sessions to break in and it looks like I have a box of five reeds that are all good!I don't know how long these will last, but the first impression is wonderful. So based on this second box, I'm willing to adjust my vote upwards. QC issues aside, these reeds play very well.

In a world of steadily deteriorating quality from Vandoren, these reeds are truly a godsend. At first I was hesitant to even try them (as anyone who started on Ricos knows how quickly that turnover process runs), but I've been consistently satisfied with both the quality and value of Jazz Select reeds. I get the most "working" reeds out of the box than any other brand, typically 3-4 out of 5 (used to be on Vandoren V16s and at one point I was lucky if one reed in the box actually played), and they are far cheaper than most other comparable options. I play on a 6* hard rubber mouthpiece and 3 Medium has worked best for me; it's a little harder to adjust to if you haven't played in a while, but once you get your chops in shape, it produces a nice steady, warm tone up and down the horn. Would recommend to students and professionals alike.

I ordered these reeds at the recommendation of my sax forum and I love them. I am just a beginner so I am still learning a lot, but these reeds have really helped me a lot. When I am playing notes well they sounds a lot closer to what I want my sounds to become, and this is just with a basic yamaha 4C mpc.The reed is extremely responsive to the embouchure and you can really notice the differences subtle changes can make. For the beginner like me, it's making a world of difference in developing a proper tone and pitch control. I've gone from having a jaw set that was all wrong to learning to use the jaw correctly. It's all in how this style of reed reacts to the player. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a good jazz sound (probably why you are reading this) or to someone who wants to develop a good jazz sound.

A custom mouthpiece refinisher recommended I switch to Rico Jazz Select, and boy was he right. The advantage of this reed is the evenness of the strength in each box, allowing more grades of strength. If you find Java 2.5 too soft, but Java 3 to be too hard, the RJS 3-Soft sits almost exactly in between. Similarly the 3-Hard stand between Java 3 and 3.5. In addition, I have found the table of these reeds to be more consistently flat than the current crop of Vandorens, requiring less preparation to get a good seal with the mouthpiece, and the evenness from side to side is better. If you want to prepare reeds so that even more of them are usable, the two best tools for perfecting reeds are the ReedGeek and the ATG Reed Preparation system. Between these two tools and RJS reeds, I now get exactly what I'm looking for in a reed, about 9 times in 10.
