Very soft, pliable rubber. The entire set of four pieces for the two crankarms weighs 32 grams. I have a hard time seeing how these would be better than hockey tape, which would both weigh less and be tougher. I'm actually going to mount these and see how they fare and will update this review.Update April 2024: These are horrible and worse than nothing. Due to their pliable nature any rubbing of my shoes on them repeatedly bungles them out of position. And what happened to the piece in the middle of my crankarm? I suppose that just fell off at some point. I finally went for a decent ride today and occasionally found the left boot scrunched up and fouling the ability of the pedal to rotate normally. Going over logs and striking the actual crankarm on the log scrunched my right boot out of position. Ironically enough the boots DID protect the finish on my cranks, it's just that they don't stay in position. And, again, what happened to that mid-piece on my left arm?
