TerraWest Core Quick Lock Probe Series Highlights
This 320 cm probe is incredibly fast to deploy and is made for weight-conscious outdoor enthusiasts, weighing just 400 g.
Due to the probe 320 cm in length, you can collapse the probe down to 40 cm making it a really easy probe to fit within your outdoor and ski backpack.
TerraWest made it their mission to create a probe with speed and with an average deployment time of 9 seconds from quick release cover to a fully assembled probe and 18 seconds from ski backpack to assembled probe | TerraWest managed to achieve this by adding a quick automatic locking system to the top of the probe, this offers deployment in one motion.
Probe Pole Materials - Aluminium 7075 T6 - This aluminium material is light and stiff, making it a strong compansion for cutting through snow laters.
Probe Tensioning System - Coated Steel cord - This cord has limited stretching and offers high rigidity, stability and robustness, making it the ideal tension cord.

Folding it up is a little tight. With my older Black diamond probes you just collapse it without thinking about it. These i have to make sure i have plenty of cable to fold it over. Happy to have a long probe and not spend a bunch of money. Its definitely heavier, but i run an airbag so the weight is t even felt in my pack.

I do quite a bit of hiking year-round. Some of my favorite places include some rocky areas with relatively deep crevices and fissures between large boulders. I know the area well, but use this devise during the winter months to insure safety when the ground is covered in ice and snow.It is somewhat heavy, so if you're a mountaineer or backpacker looking to eliminate as weight as possible, you may want to consider a different material. That said, I've found it's perfect for shorter day-hikes, and easily fits into a regular day pack!Happy trails!

These is a very convenient stick to carry when you want to be ready in case of emergency. The length is 3M (about 9ft) which is about as deep as you should go to the max during a fresh avalanche to find someone. Beyond that depth, the chance of survival are minimal or the snow is so packed you won't feel anything or be able to reach that far.So, it should be part of any back country skier emergency backpack along with avalanche tracer/warning beacons. Better be prepared than sorry.

Buona sulla carta, il diametro dei tubi è lo stesso di altri modelli in mio possesso e permette una buona rigidità a un peso contenuto. Una volta bloccata e utilizzata per sondare però ha un po' di gioco. Inoltre al primo utilizzo durante uno stage si è rotto uno degli inviti conici che servono a bloccarla in rapidità. Questo non va bene: quando si utilizza una sonda valanga il tempo è fondamentale e ogni secondo perso può fare la differenza. Nelle foto il conetto rotto e un esempio di come dovrebbe essere.

Never using one of these before at first I thought this had too much cordage in the middle but then I figured it out that you have to pull on the top to take the slack out. After that, I found it to be very long. It comes in a nylon carrying bag. I think it will work well if I should ever have to need it. I hope and pray I don't.

I purchased this for my brother, who is an avid skier and snowboarder. He is also the type of person who is very difficult to buy gifts for, since he has every gadget already.I was pleased to be able to give him this item, and that it was not something he had already purchased for himself. He was impressed with the capability and stability of the item, and it will be a safety addition to his snow safety kit.Personally, I felt that the "setup" method was a little bit difficult. The pull lever of the rope to link the metal sections together was not flawless and needed adjustment. A much quicker assembly time was advertised--so I could potentially see this being an issue in a true avalanche emergency situation.However, it folds nicely and does not take up too much space. The poles are also lightweight, for what this is.I definitely give this four stars, but I am not convinced that it is a full five star item (due to the clumsy assembly of the roped sections). It is, however, incredibly nice and would work well for the intended purpose.

I've got a BCA probe for about twice the price and I see no issues with the Terrawest brand so far, locking mechanism works well and it assembles pretty quickly. Folds up and fits nicely in my backpack

I like this TerrWest avalanche probe. It actually throws together quicker than my stock avalanche probe. Meaning that if you were in a hurry to get your probe together to find someone in an actually emergency that this probe will come together quicker. With one pull all the pieces line up and tighten with a ridged slotted connection at the top. The top of the handle has a cushioned handle which is nice. The pole is 10’ 8” total length which is the same as a standard avalanche probe as you can see in the picture of the two side by side. The only difference I have seen is that a the TerraWest pole is sectioned a little longer than the stock poles . This only matters if your pack pack is large enough to carry a longer pole. Otherwise this is a very good strong and useful avalanche probe.
