I've got a bunch of Makita tools and batteries and have wanted to replace my air-powered die grinder with a battery powered one, but haven't been able to stomach the cost of the Makita unit yet. This thing satisfies! It feels to have siginificantly more torque than I was getting from my airtools, and the battery usage is totally reasonable. I've used it with both name brand and off-brand batteries and it works great. It's a little heavy/awkward to use at first if you've been using a lightweight airtool die grinder, but the cordless feature and some real power and durability make up for all of that. Highly recommend.

I am surprised and impressed with how well this thing works! The real makita is a fixed speed, which is fine for running burrs and stones, but is too fast for running wire wheels and abrasive nylon. This tool fixes that with 3 useful speeds. The brushless motor is incredibly quiet (compared to other die grinders). The run time is great too - 20+ minutes continous on a 5ah battery running at medium speed. Also at medium or low speed, it stays cooler than the other electric grinders I've used. The spindle is very well balanced, which explains why it runs so well, and gives me hope that it might actually last awhile. Time will tell, but I've already put 8hrs+ of continuous use grinding chamfers and filets, and it's still going strong.

I’m using this die grinder for cleaning up my poor steel welds where other grinders won’t fit. It works well with some knock-off Makita 18V lithium batteries. So far so good; it’s a strong grinder that comes with a couple of grinding cones and a flapper wheel (although those cones are pretty wobbly in their own right). The speed control at the base of the tool has settings for Dir, H, M, L… but there is no mention of these settings in the very poor manual. One might presume there are for High, Medium and Low speed, but they clearly work the opposite of that where H is slower than L. As for the ‘Dir’ setting, well it just seems like the slowest speed. The instructions also illustrate a side handle that would screw into the side of grinder; however, no handle was supplied and there is no tapped hole into which such a handle could be attached. Perhaps the instructions are for a different model. Regardless of the poor instructions and odd speed controls it’s a decent battery powered die grinder at a reasonable price point.

This 1/4" / 6mm die grinder is powerful at all speeds.Like its progenitor, it sounds like a Saturday night at US 30 Drag Raceway on its highest setting, but calms down considerably as its speed is decreased, cutting and grinding very well. It's heavy, yet fairly easy to hold and maneuver (even without the NOT INCLUDED side handle).A complimentary pair of cotton gloves is included, but I'd rather have been provided the handle. Two wrenches are provided to operate the chuck. Fortunately, I now have a die grinder to increase the size of the openings of those wrenches which fit so tightly at first I couldn't even slip them onto the collet nut.Oh wait ... well, a file will do.The nice thing about the wrenches is that they feature a pre-drilled hole in their handles; add a little clip and it's easy to keep them attached to the tool for storage.Operating the power switch is a bit awkward, as is navigating the speed setting. The power switch itself is not a particularly robust rocker switch — and the speed control always remains at its last setting, but there's no way to know what that was.In other words, if you turn off the grinder mid-highest speed ... WHAM! — it turns on at that speed ... so always be prepared to hold on tight when you flip the power switch, because there's no physical indication which speed you're going to get right out of the gate. Might want to cultivate the habit of ALWAYS ending on low ...
