FYI; this is very “front-heavy”. The balance is very much forward; like an axe. That’s what you’d want in a chopping tool, but it’s not balanced at all like a cutlass or what you’d hope for in a defensive tool. The handle is slick and would benefit from some skateboard tape to improve the grip (if you were swinging this with wet or sweaty hands, it could fly out of your grip). The blade itself is at or slightly over 24” in length; with the handle it’s about 30” total in length. Hold a 30” baseball bat at the end in one hand and you’ll get a sense of what this machete feels like. If that feel and those dimensions are what works for you, it’s a good value Cold Steel chopper. The sheath is basic but well built.

I got one of these several years ago to take out vines that had taken over a tree line and started up my power pole. I made short work of the vines, and the thicket in good order. I was much more efficient with this machete than any other configuration I have ever used. It takes an edge easily with a file and the grip does really help protect your hand when working in heavy brush. I liked it so much that when Amazon offered a two pack of these tools I had to purchase. A really effective tool for clearing all kinds of brush quickly.
