Bought this forstner bit to install European (cup type) hinges on cabinets I was building, and it worked great. No problems - accurate, easy to use, sharp, no problems.

I bought this for concealed hinges. It's the right size and it started out okay. But by the time I go to the seventh hole in cherry wood, the bit was burning the wood. It had been getting hot and I was letting it cool between holes. But now it's so dull, I'm afraid to continue. Now I'm looking for something better.Looking back at the description now I see it says it's for "soft wood." No wonder. Buyer beware.

It makes the job sooooo much easier! I cannot imagine how much harder it would have been without it.Honestly, I wish most of our drilling bits were made like this-it works so much better than other regular bits.

This is a very good bit if you are looking to install European style hinges. The hole made by the bit, fit perfectly my hinges, and I've been able to put the hinges on my door with no issues at all. I only used this bit for mdf and oak, but I'm sure it can work on harder wood.Overall, good product and if you can find a good place to store the bit, your product should last a very long time (it would have been nice to have a little plastic storage case included with the product...)

This seems like a nice bit, but it's somewhat worthless for my needs. If you, like me, bought this for drilling holes for Blum/euro-style cabinet hinges, note that this bit is 35mm, which is ever-so-slightly larger than 1 3/8". If you have a jig like I do (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003CLKRO8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00) that calls for a 1 3/8" bit and has tight tolerances, this bit will not fit. (This bit does not fit the jig referenced above). I'm not sure if I should blame this bit or the jig, but this item *does* say 1-3/8", which is... sort of true. Seems like a good bit, though!UPDATE 7/24/15I've finally been able to use the bit, and was able to drill out the jig a bit with my slightly "oversized" bit. I put the shank of the bit through the jig, attached it to my drill, and drilled *out* of the jig. This opened up the hole enough that I can put the bit through the correct direction. Besides the sizing issue, this bit works well. My only complaint is that I wish the center point didn't protrude quite so much. When drilling hinge mortises in 3/4 plywood (23/32" thick), this bit doesn't give much room for error. Once you get to the correct depth, the center point will be almost all the way through the last ply, approaching the veneer on the other side. I haven't had any issues with the center penetrating the other side, but it does require a lot of focus and attention to get the hole just "deep enough".

I have purchased quite a few CMT products in the past including 5 mortising chisels and a couple router bits. At their price point I have yet to find another brand that matches them. I won't claim these rival ones costing 3 or 4 times as much but then again why would they. They do a good job of sharpening their bits and ensuring consistency in products.

I've had this bit for several months now and it is still doing a good job. Drilled maple doors for hinges with no problems. CMT - an Italian company makes very good bits and blades. Pretty good price as well. I will be buying more CMT bits.

I've only drilled two holes with this bit, but in my short lifetime of drilling holes into wood I can say that this was the greatest honor and experience ever. To say that I just drilled a hole would not say enough of my awe. Drilling those two holes was almost poetry. The bit sang a aria to me as it slowly, creamily moved its way artfully through the wood. The tree that made the wood can rest assured that it did not give its life in vain after it experienced this bit. Truly a fabulous bit and if you need to drill a hole this size you should consider experiencing this bit yourself. I love you.

I was apprehensive about drilling the inset holes for concealed cabinet hinges. But when I ordered the hinges from amazon they offered the drill bit to do the work. I took a deep breath and pressed forward. It was amazingly easy and quick. The bit performed perfectly and stayed sharp. Shavings flying everywhere. Quick delivery great performance.
