I rebuilt an antique pitcher pump, it was missing some parts. One of them was this weight, whose function is either to hold the check valve down or, if you leave the handle up, forces the valve leather open and it allows the pump to drain in cold weather. Therefore, this part is important. I was happy to see this on Amazon, so I ordered it.When it arrived, I knew it would work. It would have been better if the included screw was made of brass (as it appears to be in the picture on the product page), but the included steel screw will work. However, the next time I need to rebuild this pump, the steel will be rusted to the point where it will need to be ground off, unlike brass, which does not corrode like steel.It was time to assemble the pump. When I did, I checked the clearance on this weight against the side of the pump's bore with a screwdriver. The weight should have pivoted downward when pressed by the screwdriver (this simulates the action of the pump piston), but it did not. I had to take the pump back apart and I ground the end down so that it worked properly. I subtracted a star for this. However, at the end of the process, the weight does what I want it to do, after modification. It works, but if you need one of these, you might have to be a bit creative. Also, you might want to pick up a brass screw for long-term maintainability. Four stars, it does the job.
