Know more about Ceramic Fiber

What is ceramic Fiber?

Ceramic Fiber is a man-made synthetic microfiber of specific diameter composed of high purity aluminosilicate materials which were developed since 1940s, to resolve various issues in other refractory materials. Ceramic fibers are produced in various forms like blankets, bulk fibers, cast shapes, paper, and textiles depending on the application.

Why Ceramic Fiber is the best insulation material:

The use of ceramic fibers in composite applications has been influenced since the last decades due to

  • Lightweight (which help to structural cost of equipment)
  • Fire resistant & ability to resist with direct heat up to 2600°F
  • High thermal shock resistant (ability of a solid to withstand sudden changes in temperature either during heating or cooling)

After seeing the 1-star review, and having ordered this myself before coming back to re-order, I feel I should counter that “dangerous misleading (or misinformed) review. First off: ALL ceramic fiber products are “dangerous” to inhale the dust when installing — but so is fiberglass insulation blanket. Simond store even gives you free gloves and a dust mask with the product. If you’re buying ceramic fiber for use in this temperature range and you don’t know that you should wear that included mask… then pump the brakes on your whole project and educate yourself on ALL of the safety risks involved in dealing with the extremely high temperatures in the 2600°F range this is used for, because you clearly need to inform yourself before you risk personal injury or property damage… due to the sheer heat you’re working with and the need to properly contain it with this type of high-temp ceramic fiber insulation. That super-basic safety is YOUR responsibility.Secondly: this ceramic fiber blanket is made from aluminosilicate with added zirconia to achieve the 2600°F temp rating. It’s literally the safest type you can buy that will retain insulative properties in this temperature range. (Plain aluminosilicate ceramic fiber is only good to 2300°F) The only other option for 2600°F is chrome-aluminosilicate — but chromed “kaowool” will offgas chromic oxide fumes if you happen to exceed its temperature threshold, which is toxic. THIS product, however, does not have that risk. It might thermally degrade and disintegrate, but it would not release fumed chrome compounds into the air, soil, and watershed, which is neurotoxic and persistent in the environment where it’s released. This zircon-based ceramic fiber is a great product and completely safe when handled responsibly, with no need to worry after it’s installed.
