Bought several years ago but only used it recently.I agree with several other reviewers. 1) You have to get used to setting the neck tension before locking down. 2) The magnet base (vs the locking pliers) is not for every application. My table saw top is aluminum so the magnet was not usable. I did attach the dial portion to something else and it worked great. I've never used "expensive" types but it's perfect for my needs. BTW, my case works fine, and both latches snap shut. There are injection molded spaces for the instrument to fit snugly so in my opinion it's better than most.

This dial indicator set works really well for setting up rear axle gears, on my lathe and most other uses I've used it for. Stays tight and the magnet base holds well. Now I only gave it a 4 star rating because the case outcome in is a piece of JUNK!! I will not latch on either latch, hooks under the latch's are ok but the case hooks are very very soft so that when you attempt to latch it they just push in and don't hold the latch's at all!! I really like this set for general use, but the case is pure JUNK! I bought this set because it was in a case, and the case says "STORM" on it not Central tools as it is their cheaper line of dial indicators but it works good other than the case!

This is an update to a previous comment labeled " What a Wast of Money". I am upgrading this to three stars from one, as the main issue was a user error issue. At the end of the flexible neck on the dial side, the mount also adjusts to take up slack. Once I adjusted the neck properly it was a useful piece of equipment. The reason for the three stars has more to do with me having used similar tools that were much more expensive. For the mechanic at home who will only use this from time to time. Now my biggest gripe is the magnet, may not be for all situations.

This is a great dial indicator! I am a John Deere field service tech and I use this tool on a regular basis to set preload and check gear back lash. I have used several different brands and types of dial indicator and this one is very comparable to the snapon dial indicator my co-worker has. The magnet is very strong, and the neck locks down solid when in use. I would highly recommend this product.

The item was not as pictured which is an obvious way to mislead a buyer. The device works, but when somebody intentionally misleads consumers, it brings discredit to companies such as Amazon. Use caution when buying these tools, ensure you are getting what you think you are purchasing. The seller shipped me the flex neck version...
