Wanted a mantle clock to play the Westminster melody on the hour.Pros: - Solid wood and veneer feel and look very well made. - 10 years later it still keeps accurate time (provided you change the batteries when low) - AA batteries last a long time in this ( One for timepiece and two for the sound.)Cons: - There is/was no volume control. Inside on the plastic case it shows a Max to Min etching but there is not dial to turn it down. I have taken the cover off and still nothing. There is a set button but turning that does nothing. - It's too loud for me so I have something over the speaker to tone it down some. - Made in China stamped underneath. I do not know if that is for the wood work, timepiece or both. Cheaper items are made in Hong Kong so maybe that is why. Either way it looks, sounds, feels good...

Perfect clock for my dining room! My friend saw it for the first time, and she thought it was an antique. The walnut case if beautiful and reminds me of my mother's clock which was housed on her mantel. The chimes are lovely. I keep them on 24hours a day, but they can be turned off or turned down. It is easy to adjust the time if necessary. Batteries can be easily placed in the clock. The back is easy to remove; no tools required.Overall, this was my best buy of the year!

This a nice clock for a wall shelf. I have a 80'' mantel and it's too small for that, if you have a small mantel it would look good on it. I didn't intend to buy it for the mantel but for a wall shelf that is 36" long that is above my TV. Since I am doing my living room over, I didn't want a clock that would overpower my new oil painting above the TV. So this fits perfectly in the space that I needed it for. This only take's 1 battery for the clock itself to work. You don't have to put in the other 2 batteries because that is for the chimes. I left the 2 chime batteries out, because I do not want to hear the chimes. Overall it's a nice looking clock that is very quiet. Happy with my purchase.

Mine did not come with volume control. (which would have been nice, as I read that others did)Has volume control markings on the case but no wheel, lever, or switch to alter it.On the up side the wood case is well put together, and quite nice.Plays Westminster on the hour, but does not chime for the hour of the day.Perhaps I set my expectations to high for this clock, based solely on the Bulova name.I'm thankful this was a gift, as if I would have bought it for myself... I would have returned it the same day.To sum this up... I'm in no way blaming the vender, just the manufacture.Hope this helps others in knowing just what this model can and cant do.

The chime is not a westminster chime (according to wikipedia) in that it does not strike out the hour count (ie- 1,2 etc) following the melody. Also it does not strike the shorten melody on the quarter hours. Looks like the clock people that say their clock has westminster chime on the hour are misrepresenting their product.

Nice looking mantle piece, decent bulova quality for price. Chime is a bit annoying but can be turned off.

This is a wonderful clock. The look of the clock is timelessly classy - not too formal or fancy, but not out of place among a very nice home décor. The color of the wood is very handsome. The clock requires one AA battery and the chime requires two AA batteries. The chime is an addition I enjoy. It was a little loud but I put a cotton square inside the speaker cover and now it's just right. One oddity concerning the chime is that the clock has to be set to a time earlier than 10 minutes to the hour in order for it to chime on the hour the first time. And if you don't like the chime? Well, you can always turn it off.

I purchased this clock for my mother's 70th birthday present, she wanted a clock with Westminster chimes. She is absolutely thrilled with this clock. Thank you for making this available at such an affordable price. This has made my mother able to go back in time through her memories of her Grandfathers clock and the Westminster chimes that she always remembered. Fine craftsmanship accompanied these chimes, a beautiful momento of our love for Mom!

This is a great clock, with one flaw. It is too loud. But it keeps excellent time using good batteries. As for the sound of the chime you can turn it off. But if you want it what I did was take off the back cover and bottom speaker cover and put cotton balls inside. Now the chime is at the level I want. You will have to experiment. Also, the clock is very beautiful and I agree with the other reviews...it is the best clock in this price range. It works well.

First off, the packaging of this clock is very nice and wrapped very well in the manufactures box, which was a plus. The clock itself is beautiful and very classic looking, i really liked the finish of the wood. The melody is nice and not too loud to me. It is important to note that the melody is played every hour, however it doesn't chime for the number of hours (ex. 9am = 9 chimes after the Westminster melody). It is perfect for a mantle or bookcase. I also like that it is a Bulova, a respected time piece maker. I find that it keeps really accurate time. Be sure to pull out your measuring tape to get an idea of the size of this clock or any clock online before you buy, because it can be difficult to judge size based solely on the photos.
