It was kind of hard to replace but this old Woman got it done.

Fits perfectly in my GE refrigerator. I watched the YouTube video on replacement and it fit and functions perfectly.

This looked exactly like what was in my fridge but the shaft has some different mating features in different places. The one I needed looks identical from 5 feet but costs 3 times as much so I took a risk and tried this one. It's in there and working but it involved some creativity, an angle grinder, a vise, some files, and maybe even the welder lol I don't remember it wasn't easy but I saved $40. It can be done but, not without motivation and a very particular set of skills.

Even though I noticed the shaft was not exactly the same as my original (as other reviewers noted), I did NOT grind it to make it exactly the same. I decided to try it first and it was pretty easy, IF you get the spacers on correctly...Note, it did take me a couple of tries until i got right because one utube video wasn't exactly correct...Just need to use your common sense to make certain everything fits right. Didn't seem to matter that the flat part wasn't the same length after I got everything installed.. Now I do make certain that the ice doesn't get frozen up so to protect the plastic auger. Hopefully that will help make it last.

This is NOT an exact fit like they claim it is. Although it looks exactly like the original in the picture, when I received it, it did NOT match the machined end where the threaded steel rod is. Although the overall length is the same, it's not machined correctly. To make it fit I would have had to modify it using some sort of grinder or dremel tool. Beware...not a true replacement for WR29X43990 part!!! I returned it and found an original elsewhere that fit perfectly & worked like a charm!

Even though the Amazon ad says this is an exact fit for a WR 17x1139 auger, it really wasn't. The threaded shaft with a flat flange to hold the metal retaining washers was about a quarter inch shorter than the original part from my refrigerator. Several reviews recommended grinding the shaft to make it about a quarter of an inch longer for holding the 2 fixed blades, 3 rotating blades and the original number of nylon washers. That is completely unnecessary. Since this auger replaces so many different models, not all were an EXACT fit, but it can easily be made to fit and work without grinding the shaft. It turns out that the thickness of one flat nylon washer is exactly the same thickness as the length of the shaft to the flat flange is short. By eliminating 1 flat nylon washer, the Auger can be made to work perfectly. Another important point to pay attention to is that the 3 rotating blades have a single digit number stamped into each of them. Mine were 7, 8 & 9. It is important to keep these in numerical order so that they progressively and evenly advance to crush the ice.I wish I had taken a picture of my final configuration, but the sequence of blades and washers went like this:1. Two metal Slotted washers against the flange2. Rotating blade #7 with the numbered side down toward the metal washers3. Dual diameter nylon washer with the larger diameter portion against blade 7 & the smaller diameter being inserted into the first stationary blade4. Flat nylon washer5. Rotating blade #8 with the numbered side down6. Dual diameter nylon washer with the larger diameter portion against blade #8 & the smaller diameter being inserted into the second stationary blade7. Flat nylon washer8. Rotating blade #9 with the numbered side down9. End Nylon Nut.Make sure the two dual diameter nylon washers are used to insert into the two metal arms of the fixed blades. Another important tip is to make sure the flat bar holding the fixed blades is inserted into appropriate cutout on the plastic housing. A YouTube video I watched did not show it being placed in the correct location. Note how the auger is inserted into the plastic housing before removing the auger. Take pictures as you disassemble the unit. The product did not come with any instructions, probably because it is replacing so many different model numbers of augers. Yours may be slightly different, but this installation modification worked perfectly for me and a similar installation modification may work for you.

The flats on the metal shaft in the auger were not machined correctly. The flats need to extend up to the first two washers, so that the blade that goes on next will be supported by the washers. In the photos you can see the difference in the machining.Because I had the ice bin fully disassembled by that point, I chose to get my rotary tool out and extend the flats the 2-3 mm necessary to have the blade in the proper position. It was not worth the hassle to get a replacement ordered (that might have the same issue) and wait 2-3 days to address the problem. The auger I got had been returned to Amazon previously - it was in original packaging, but had a shipping label with someone else's address on it. I bet they returned it for the same reason. The RepairClinic video on YouTube is excellent for describing how to replace the auger. It is a relatively simple job and would have taken less than 30 minutes had I not had to fix the shaft machining issue myself.

I read the other reviews about this auger before buying, and a few stated that they had to file or grind down the shaft to extend the flats. I ordered anyway because other sellers seemed to have the same complaint. Got the auger, and sure enough, I had to get out the file and extend the flats about 1/4" further towards the plastic. I'm not sure if this is the "fault" of the seller of this item, it could be that there are different slight variations of this replacement part out there. FWIW, my fridge is a GE Profile PSSS3RGZBSS. I tried to determine the correct replacement part number on the internet, and it was difficult, but I came up with the WR17X11939. This auger is supposed to be a replacement for the WR17X11939, so perhaps the discrepancy in flat extent is due to this replacement not matching this model, or maybe the WR17X11939 is not correct for my GE Profile. Who knows? Anyway, filing is easy if you have a bench vise, and installation is a little fiddly, but all is working now. Part appears to be good quality, I can't comment on durability until a few years have passed. On the original part, the plastic "scoops" at the end broke off. I suppose this could occur if you have older ice that is melted together, and the auger gets overloaded trying to break it up. Hopefully, this new auger is stronger.
