This is a solid large gong mallet with a good handle for gripping. The internal part seems to be a moderately hard rubber sphere, and the outside an almost rubbery terrycloth like covering. It feels durable and I like the weight of the mallet. Whatever it's made of, it make a nice resonant ring to my gong, and that's what I was looking for.

Same here ... I thought it would be a set of mallets and turns out to be just one. I am actually fine with it (the listing should make it clear though that it's only one) because the quality is certainly better with one for this price vs would it have been 6 or so for the same price.I tried it on 2 gongs -a wind gong and an earth gong- we have at home and this thing has a punch - the resulting sound was great. Basically this mallet is a pretty massive, rather heavy rubber ball with some fluffy fabric over it. If treated well I think this mallet is going to last for a while.

I honestly don’t know why. It’s just a fabric covered ball on a stick. But it feels magical. We’ve been using it in the studio for cymbal rolls and crashes. It does a great job for building up a cymbal roar on the ride. Very happy with it and satisfied every time I use it!

NOTE: Despite the page photos, this order is for just one mallet. The listing can seem confusing, especially to someone who isn't familiar with gong mallets.The website says this is made in the USA, Maple handle, and it does have good thickness & balance to it. As a first impression, it seems a little better than I expected it to be.The handle doesn't have a hole or attachment to allow for hanging.My biggest concern is the mallet head; the materials it's made with are not listed anywhere on the page, and of course no info at all arrived with the mallet. I don't know for sure what the material covering the head is, nor do I know for sure what is under the covering that comprises the head, without cutting through the covering.As a working musician who incorporates a variety of gongs often, this would be good to know. Right now, I'm not sure how well the material will hold up or how long the head itself will last.For now, I'm giving this a cautious 4 stars. I'll be back to update if any unexpected issues or problems arise with this as I put it to regular use.

This mallet truly packs a wallop. It's heavy! The wrap does muffle impacts to some degree, but I'm not sure how long it will hold up or stay put. Time will tell. Why one star? Because the product info on the page seems very misleading. Based on the images, I had anticipated receiving multiple mallets. I was only sent one. I went back and read through the info and no where do I see only a single mallet clearly mentioned as the offer.
