Sound Quality

When a sound system is tuned properly, it becomes powerful, balanced and efficient. Bass content is punchy and tight, with vocals and instruments that are rich, crisp and well defined. The CX2310 crossover's accurate signal processing protects critical loudspeaker components and improves overall system efficiency.

What's a Crossover?

Chances are if you're reading this, you already know what a crossover is and you know that you need one. But if you are new to multi-way PA systems, here is a brief overview.

Loudspeakers (which we call transducers) convert electrical signals into sound waves. And no matter how well a transducer is designed and made, it simply cannot reproduce the entire audio spectrum all by itself. Low-frequency sounds tend to push a transducer to its maximum, making it impossible for that same transducer to reproduce the treble content with the sound quality it deserves. (Try singing high falsetto next time you're bench-pressing your limit!)

That is why high-quality sound systems use multiple speakers (woofers and tweeters) to share the work. When the woofer (usually the larger transducer) does all the heavy lifting, the tweeter can easily handle the high-frequency stuff. Three- and four-way systems distribute the work even more, allowing the individual transducers to reproduce the frequency range they are best suited to. It is the crossover's function to divide these tasks between the various transducers.

Divide and Conquer

The CX2310 provides two modes of operation: 2-way stereo, for left and right Lows (woofers) and Highs (tweeters); and 3-way mono, for Lows, Mids and Highs. In either mode, there is an additional output provided for a mono subwoofer with its own frequency range and level controls. This extra feature effectively turns the CX2310 into a stereo 2-way + mono 1-way, or a mono 4-way frequency crossover. The subwoofer signal is presented in mono, since people tend to perceive really low bass frequencies as coming from all directions.

By using 1% metal film resistors, along with other extremely tight-tolerance components, the CX2310 is able to guarantee surgically precise frequency selection with incredibly low thermal noise. State-of-the-art, ultra low-noise op amps ensure super-quiet operation. CX3400's elegant LED matrix shows at a glance which operation mode is selected and which controls are active.

Getting Connected

All of the inputs and outputs accept balanced and unbalanced XLR connections. The inputs feature 25 Hz Low Cut filters for low-frequency driver protection. Mute and phase invert switches are provided for each frequency range, making troubleshooting an entire loudspeaker system a breeze.

For a custom in floor home subwoofer being driven by a QSC amp i needed to cut sub sonic bass or everything below 25 hz. Other than buying an amp up front more designed for subwoofers, this was the only reasonable option where this could be achieved. There is no added noise to the signal or hum of any kind, just clean signal. The only thing of note was with all settings in and out at zero db, I needed to add 2 db of gain to get back to previously measured sound levels.I am very happy with it.Also out of the box it comes with one year of warrenty, but if you register it online within 90 days you get a 3 year warrenty.Last i had a small setup question and recieved excellent support from the manufacture.

I bought this to be able to filter high freqs to my high n mid range speakers as well as filtering the lows for the subwoofers. I like that it has a subwoofer output. it works great but the sound seems flat. I will need to try out a different brand and check if its this thats causing it. otherwise works great and a cheaper option compared to other crossovers.

Hi have a high class home audio system with twin power amplifiers 2 passive speakers and 2 powered subwoofers - I tried the Jl Audio CR1 crossover at £3200!! I then took a chance and purchased this Behringer for £57 oh my god it's absolutely fantastic - superbly transparent no noise although the first one had a bad hum so got a replacement - this 57 quid crossover told me that 1 sub was all I required so sold the one sub for 2.5k and did not purchase the £3200 cr1 - unbelievable - thank you Behringer!

Can be a bit tricky to set up but once you have it completed you can really control your audio sound coming through your mains and subs. This is a necessity if you have subs and powered mains with a small board. Couldn't be happier with the quality. Wish there were 1/4 inch inputs however with some patch cables you should be ready to rock and roll!

So people demean this company, but I have had very good luck with several of their products. They often have the ultimate bang for the buck...well designed and you cant beat the price...They are inexpensive so even if they do die after a couple of years...toss them and get a fresh updated design from them. This works well, appears to be quiet if you have good cables and impedance is not mis matched. This has a AC power cord input...not an outboard power supply.

Behringer often gets a bad rap but I have found their products to be reliable and an excellent value. I use this in my home stereo rack system. After the initial set up it has worked flawlessly. I occasionally change the frequency cutoff or adjust the gains. All such operations are smooth with no crackles or pops. Buttons that are likely to produce unwelcome spikes have been place in the rear of the unit since they are pretty much set it and forget it operations (2way/3way and 1x/10x scale selection). I do not use the sub-out feature. The status lights that adorn the front panel are not overly bright and are pleasant green/yellow/red colors.

I just got this, but have placed in rack and tested at practice and seems to perform well. I like the separate subwoofer out. I have several other Behringer products and my only complaint is that the manuals all assume the user already has a lot of knowledge in setting up that particular product (or maybe I'm slow, after all, I am a bass player!Once I got it hooked up right and dialed in, seems just fine.

This crossover would be a great product except in less than one year the internal power supply fried, and the unit sent terrible ear-splitting noise through my system during a live event. I am glad my speakers weren't damaged. I thought about getting warranty service, but I need a new crossover immediately. I see another reviewer had the same problem. Aside from the power supply frying, it sounded great and was simple to set up and use. Lots of headroom.Well forget about warranty service! Behringer limits all internal and external power supplies to a 90-day warranty.
