Product Description

bonsai tree green natural wood maple oak scissor shear

Bonsai Care

Bonsai care is a more delicate process than an average house plant. Most important to remember is watering, fertilizing, & location!

concave cutter

Concave Cutter

An imperative tool for any bonsai enthusiast. Cuts branches that are flush to the trunk. Minimizes damage to the tree, leading to rapid recovery time. Due to the closeness of the snip, it is almost untraceable afterwards, making the hole blend with the rest.

jin pliers

Jin Pliers

Made with short, powerful jaws. Aids in placing or dismantling the wire from the bonsai plant. Another thing jin pliers can be used for is stripping the bark of the tree. This is done for visual appeal to create a deadwood/aging effect on the trunk.

thin shears

Trimming Shear

Fits into tight spaces, allowing for precise defoliation. These are meant to help trim and thin out the plant, without damaging any tender shoots or blossoms, while still reaching the desired part of the plant you want to take off.

trunk splinter

Trunk Splitter

Splits trunk in order to strengthen it. Typically, the trunk is separated into two pieces and then held together with wire. This tool makes it easier to manipulate the shape of the tree and branches.

root pick

Root Pick

Break through the soil while leaving the roots unharmed. The sharp point is great for carving down into the soil. Its smooth and round sides are perfect for the safety of the roots while removing the soil around them.

shears

Pruning Shear

Great for the removal of the branches as well as the leaves on the plant. Mainly used for pruning the top of the plant and the roots. The wide grip of the handle allows for the shears to do this with larger parts of the plant.

root rake

Root Rake

Help remove and replant bonsai. Loosen roots with the rake to make it easier to dislodge. Use the flat edge to pack soil between the roots for stability.

heavy duty trimming shear

Heavy Duty Trimming Shear

Great for trimming the tree so branches and leaves grow more evenly. The removal of outgrown parts maintains its size and shape, while also encouraging new growth.

knob cutter

Knob Cutter

Hollows out incisions made by a branch cutter. Also known as "knuckle cutter," it is known for its spherical-shaped blades. Its design allows for its user to work it like a chisel in order to gouge out excess plant matter.

leaf cutter

Leaf Cutter

This is used for the removal of unwanted leaves or buds. Induced growth where dead leaves are snipped. Small and easy to maneuver for quick defoliation.

root cutter

Root Cutter

Cuts through thick root with minimal damage. The steel blades are meant for severing the denser wood fibers commonly found in roots. Its flat cut can also be used to split the trunk, if so desired.

Nice pair of trunk splitters. Work well. Made well. Not much to say other than that. Would also second as crafty torture weapon I suppose. Happy shopping

Way better than expected. Cutters where very sharp, and edges lined up perfectly! The Gin pliers have excellent serration and all the tools have very good hinges, not loose and not too tight.

Most useful bonsai tools after a simple scissors and concave cutter. Excellent value for the price.

Some of these tools are ridiculously overpriced. These were not at the time, and are more than strong enough for my novice bonsai cultivation. will have for years. The black coating comes off fairly easily

This an entry level set of tools for the Bonsai hobbyist and a great value. I was skeptical and a bit hesitant to purchase due to low price and produced in China; however, not at all disappointed! The cutting edges align very well and are fairly sharp "out of the bag". I have not used them yet so cannot say how the sharpness will hold up but looks like it will not be a problem to maintain the edge. Before using for first time, suggest a few drops of 3-1 oil ("sowing machine oil") at pivot point and work the tool a few times before wiping, this will eliminate the stiffness of being brand new. Don't forget to wipe as your Bonsai will not like the oil residue. There was a bit of rust on the cutter and splitter but that is to be expected from a carbon steel product shipped in a plastic bag. A little 3-1 oil & brass brushing, wipe and recoat; no problem. Hint, the oil wipe down should be done after use and before storing. This is true for all forged carbon steel items. My comment on the rust is to convey to others that it is a normal thing and not meant to imply the product is of poor quality, just nature of the beast! The bamboo brush is fairly stiff but it is brand new. I expect it to soften after some use and getting it damp.

Considering there are some seriously expensive bonsai tools out there...these were reasonably priced, they work well, they're heavy duty...and I get a good clean cut. What more could you ask for?
