  • Since 1904: The Original CLP - Cleans, Lubricates and Protects
  • Multi-Purpose: Preserves and protects metal, wood, leather, rubber and plastics
  • Lubricates and Cleans: Perfect for lubricating and cleaning tools, knives, marine parts, firearms and just about anything else
  • Skin Safe: Slightly alkaline in nature; neutralizes the effect of sweat and skin oils and non-carcinogenic
  • Environmentally Friendly: Ballistol is biodegradable, and neither its use nor its disposal will pollute our air or water. Its natural decomposition will not produce byproducts that are harmful to the environment.

Ballistol was developed for the German Army who requested an oil that would lubricate, clean, protect and preserve firearms and gun stocks as well as preserve leather gear. It is unmatched for cleaning firearms and minimizes the need for brushing and scraping barrels and chambers. It forms a protective film on the surface of metals and is capable of creeping into the finest cracks and fissures making Ballistol and excellent "penetrant" to help loosen frozen nuts and bolts. It will even protect wet surfaces! Unlike most lubricants, Ballistol emulsifies with water; when the water evaporates, Ballistol stays behind to protect the metal, plastic, wood or leather. Ballistol will keep all smooth leathers soft and moisturized (do not use on suede). It is also non-toxic and biodegradable; neither its use, disposal or decomposition will produce any byproducts that are harmful to the environment. Coca Cola and many of Germany's famous breweries use Ballistol as does Bizerba, one of the largest precision scale manufacturers, who specifies Ballistol because it never gets sticky or increases friction over time. It's also a great silver and brass polish. Human sweat and skin oils are slightly acidic; their effect is similar to the etching process. Ballistol is slightly alkaline and neutralizes this effect. Of course Ballistol is also perfect for all the household chores any normal oil will do, but why settle for a "normal" oil when you can have one product that does so much more.

Other than smell, it keeps my guns clean and rust-free.

Works as advertised - cleans burnt residue and lubricates well, displaces surface rust. Water soluble to aid removal of contaminating deposits, leaves protective film. Mineral oil based -

I use this on my guns and knives mostly, but there are other uses listed on the can, and it's non-aerosol so easier to control the spray. It works great! WD-40 is NOT a lubricant, it's a water displacer, Ballistol is a true CLP. One can should last for years.

It has a scent !It is not bad or good. I like the Hoppes #9 scent. I do not like this one but it is not so bad that I don't use it.The lubricating qualities of this oil are just short of amazing. It is versatile and works well on metal and wood. The only item I would fault is the spray nozzle. It has an ON/OFF position (actually two) and a "jet" stream and a "spray" stream position. This oil is a bit too viscous for the "spray" stream position and it comes out like a fat jet stream at best. There is NO fine spraying from this spray pump. That being known, the pump works well and oil comes out every pull.

I like Ballistol. The smell is not offensive to me at all. the oil works well as a CLP to clean, lubricate and protect from corrosion. My only complaint is the pump sprayer. I was wanting it primarily to mist a coating over surfaces and inside barrels... it doesn't work like that. it is a stream like a squirt gun. Still a good value for 16 oz volume but if you want to have a misting effect, go with the aerosol.

This stuff has served me very well. I do a lot of shooting, collecting, you name it. So, I have tried many different oils and protectants and this is some great all-around cleaner and preservative for my collectible firearms. The spray can is great because I buy a lot of surplus firearms that I have to degrease. I use hot water or hot mineral spirits to get the old grease and cosmoline off, and when I take them out of the water or grease, the parts can flash rust. So, I spray them quickly with Ballistol and wipe it down. This stuff is great at preventing rust in my experience. I have a old house and it is a bit damp. I had some nightmare rust issues with other products even though I constantly take my firearms out and re-oil them every couple months. This stuff hasn't let me down yet. I hardly ever use solvent anymore unless I have bad copper or rust buildup. I usually just use this for all my cleaning too, bores and all. I leave a generous amount in my bores during storage, then run a patch through before I shoot. This stuff will eat copper fouling, but very slowly. So, the added benefit of it keeping rust out of my bores is that it removes copper while in storage. The pre-shooting patch will always show that it has removed some copper. For my carry gun, which sees a lot of sweat, I properly apply Eezox after degreasing the pistol. Then, once I let that dry for about 12 hours, I'll apply Ballistol on top of it. I never see rust in my carry pistol anymore after doing this.

I purchased this primarily to clean firearms with. It was recommended to me by a friend who uses it quite a bit and absolutely loves it. I used the product for the first time today to help clean up one of my dad's rusty old folding knives. I didn't find the smell to be bad at all when compared to other similar products like this that I've used. I sprayed some of this on the knife and just let it sit for an hour and it certainly helped to lube and clean it up. One of the key features of Ballistol is that unlike some other products of this kind, it doesn't get sticky or harden over time. I have some older guns that spend more time in the cabinet than out in the field and you've got to be careful what you use so they don't get all gummed up over time. Friends of mine who use this have spoken very highly of it so far and have multiple uses for it around their homes. I was surprised to see that it also is used to protect and bring out wood grains without harming the material.A reviewer posted a picture of their order arriving in an envelope. I was a little worried about that because of the can getting punctured or the plastic spray nozzle getting damaged. Mine arrived in a box within a box. There was no damage to the plastic spray nozzle or can. The plastic nozzle has a stream and spray feature and worked nicely. I am sure I can find multiple uses for this around the house and although this is more expensive when compared to others like it, the high recommendations from friends who use it cannot be ignored.
