RECOMMENDATION:Thumbs Up: Good transformer but would not expose it to direct rainTHE GOOD:1. The transformer provides a single circuit at either 12 or 14 volts and is rated at 400 watts which is pretty sizeable. You should not really load it any higher than 320 watts, so be sure to add up your lighting and keep it around 320 if you can.2. In controlling the circuit, you can set a hard timer or use the light sensor for automatic operation at dawn/dusk. Both modes work well.3. The unit itself uses a metal shell and is pretty well waterproofed. I would not put it into a direct line of rain, but it is rated for that.4. If you want to use the automatic photocell for on/off at dusk/dawn, be sure to mount the unit in a place where the photo sensor will get enough light, but it does not have to be in direct light.THE BAD:1. This transformer only has a single circuit which is unusual for large capacity transformers. I have others I use and 2 circuits is the standard. That means that everything on your circuit is going to get controlled the same way.2. This unit does not support dimmers which may be a non-starter for some folks.3. 14v was a strange choice. All of my other transformers are 15v, so not sure why they went with 14.4. This is not the best-looking unit (pretty industrial), so you will likely not want to put it in a place that is directly viewable if possible.

I have been a landscape gardener for 20+ years. I have always used low voltage transformers in my gardens. I was wanting to try a different brand from the ones I normally use. This was very frustrating to finish my garden project and not be able to have lighting.

I have spent hours troubleshooting my outdoor lighting in belief I had a short in my lighting wire. I thought it couldn’t be the transformer as it was new. I finally looked at the supply connections with my DVM and discovered it was the transformer. The new Azhien 400W transformer works only when it wants too. It’s a lemon of a product. Don’t waste your money.
