The spring doesn’t reset after each use. I’m experimenting with the adjustment to see if there is a way to solve this. Both have the same problem. It’s ok when it works properly.

So, I purchased the two set as for the price it could not be beat. However, there is NOTHING automatic about them compared to other brands. And by automatic I mean you supposed to be able to press the punch down, be spring loaded then “punch” a small indent into the selected material for tasks such as drilling as it shows in the video for the product. All it does it pushes down, slides into the sleeve, but never “pops” to make the intended indent mark. Even the one from Harbor Freight works better than this junk. Save your time and mental state and just buy the one from your chosen hardware store of choice and get the right tool the first time.

These pop perfect dents into sheet metal. I’ve never had a problem with my drill bit wandering off the mark.They have some heft to them, compared to those cheap red ball popping punches.

Great value! I took it apart to see how it works.It separates into 2 main compartments. In the lower section with the punch, a narrow striking pin extends up into the back compartment where it contacts the hammer block with a hole in the middle. The lower section has a spring in it that tightly holds on to the striking pin but it forces it to be off center. The one end of the spring has a tighter wind and is slightly bent; this is on purpose. That forces the hammer pin to bend sideways and contact the outer portion of the hammer block in the back compartment and pushes it up into the spring at the very back to compress the hammer spring. When you push it far enough in, the taper on the striking pin contacts the taper on the inside of the tube and it forces the pin to center itself which moves it into the hole in the hammer block. This allows the spring to quickly drive the hammer block into the striking pin to complete the punch.If it's not firing correctly, unscrew the lower section and make sure the spring is bent enough so the striking pin is touching the inside SIDE of the spring (slightly bent sideways and not centered). If it's centered, when you press the punch down, the striking pin will just go straight into the hole in the hammer block right away and it won't generate the "hammer action". The striking pin need to push up on the outer edge of the hammer block first and then SLIDE into the hole when all the springs are compressed.Works great and really easy to fix. Well worth the money.

One firm press and you have the perfect dimple to drill metal roofing sheet. Also great for wood and drilling holes. One push and dimple is made. Drill then stays in place! Comes with extra pont!

These spring-loaded punches are the types of tools one asks why he or she never bought before. From just making marks for measurements to indenting wood for drilling to keep the drill bit in place. They will even punch through very thin aluminum for screw holes.These punches also come with replacement parts for when you wear out the striker.
