This aquarium cleaner initially seemed promising with its strong suction. However, the quality is quite poor. After only three uses, the unit stopped working completely. The plastic feels cheap, and the suction power diminished significantly before it finally failed. I wouldn't recommend this product due to its low durability.

The instructions that came with it is only gonna tell you how to set up the thing but not how to use it. I have a 10-gallon tank and I don't think it worked great for me. First, you have to submerge and tilt it up to the line and then it would start vacuuming. It has a pretty strong suction. I would not recommend this if you have small species like shrimp and snails. It did an OK job sucking in the dirt from the sand, but also it took a lot of sand as well. Leaks constantly on the side as well.

Unfortunately, nothing about this worked for me. There are a lot of parts, but no instructions in English. The parts that are written in English are difficult to understand. My husband and I did not agree on what the water line warning in the photo was trying to say. I thought it meant that the water had to be above the start line to start, but not go above the max line. Husband thought that didn't make sense as they are only 1/4" apart and you can't necessarily be that exact. He thought we had to keep the water below that line to start, but that doesn't make sense either because then they would just need one max line. We never did figure it out, but tried it both ways.It took a while to get the vacuum together. As you can see, there are no instructions as to how to do it, so we had to figure it out as best as we could. The pieces do not fit well.Once we finally got it all together and tried it...well, it didn't actually do anything. It wasn't strong enough to lift the rocks at the bottom at all and nothing came out of them. Our tank is very clean, so we tried to feel for any suction and there really wasn't any. I tried to suck up a tiny bit of dust off our tile floor to see if there was more suction than we thought and nothing. This didn't work for us at all and will end up in the trash. All we are left with is a fish that feels like it still needs to hide.

I love that its battery operated. I have a tank that I need to unplug so I can use the electric one. I was able to get the sand cleaned up with no problem. It has a good amount of suction and is pretty effective. I'm impressed with it and found that it works great with my 10 gallon.

Missing parts, what was there didn't connect together at all. Waste of time.

I was a bit sad to find out after reading the manual that this requires C batteries, it says as much on the product page now, but in the manual it says AA, which definitely will not work. Since I haven't got any C batteries at the moment I really can't comment on the battery operated function, which is mostly why I got it to begin with. As far as the wall outlet plugin function though, the device works fairly well, not much to complain about with the exception that the tubing they give you with this thing is really short and flimsy. In terms of water transfer speed, at least on the wall outlet power it was really good as far as meeting my expectations goes, and I have another different one of these to compare it with that does not have the battery function, I'd say they both operate about the same speed. At 36 dollars I feel like you might be able to find a higher quality version of this item, that said if you can't, and you want something to make your fish tank maintenance easier, this will do the job and I think the added utility is definitely worth it, especially if you have a 20+ gallon tank.Edit/Update: I got some C batteries, rechargeable and I can say this thing works okay on battery power, about the same as off wall power, with one issue though, unfortunately at least for the C batteries I have, the size of the spot that holds them is sliiightly too short to accomdate them and allow for the button which activates the pump to fully depress, which means I have to hold it, which is definitely not ideal. Other than that though, works well.

The cleaner is not bad. Build quality is decent for the price. I have several others that are better built, but also costs 30% more. Works great for spot cleaning if you are like me and feed my shrimps pellets. Those pellets would break down into a mess and would need to be vacuumed out. While being able to run them on batteries is a nice touch, I would have preferred it to have built-in rechargeable function rather than C batteries. I had to get some rechargeable C batteries to use with this pump. Overall, it's a nice cleaner that's has great suction power that's perfect for medium sized tanks.
