About this item

  • The Aperion Audio Super Tweeter is a high-fidelity compliment to any home audio system. They add a subtle touch to the high frequency range and blend seamlessly with many brands of speakers.
  • Designed to reside on top of your existing speaker, the Super Tweeter will slightly boost the frequency range of 8,000 Hz to 40,000 Hz and employs a high pass filter with 5 preset crossover points.
  • Unlike a horn tweeter, the Super Tweeter delicately handles high frequencies, bringing a new dynamic to your sound field. The Planar Magnetic Super Tweeter works best with speakers having 85 to 93 dB efficiency.
  • Please do not expect this tweeter to be extremely loud. This is a special tweeter which adds a subtle boost to the upper register frequencies. Please note the efficiency of your speakers to ensure the Super Tweeters are compatible with your existing speakers. If you have any questions, please contact the customer service team at Aperion Audio.

Product Description

Aperion Audio PST Planar-Magnetic Ribbon Super Tweeter Speaker Pair MKII

aperion-audio-super-tweeter-speakers

This Super Tweeter is a planar-magnetic, flat-ribbon tweeter consisting of Kapton film with a pattern of aluminum conductors. The crossover network used non-inductive resistors, and use film semiconductor capacitors. A linear phase response provides time coherent sound reproduction, allowing for an accurate sound stage.

What is a Super Tweeter speaker? Put simply, it’s an additional tweeter unit which covers a wide and extended high-frequency response, beyond that of your existing loudspeaker’s integrated tweeters.

Many loud speaker systems have poor high frequency performance. A Super Tweeter specializes in ultra-high frequencies and is used in conjunction with a bookshelf or tower speaker. Its purpose is to create a more realistic sound field, often characterized as "airiness," that enhances the listening experience. Super Tweeters are sometimes found in high fidelity speaker systems and home theater systems. They are used to supplement the sound of tweeters by reproducing frequencies which the existing tweeter may produce only with a narrow polar output, or perhaps with distortion. A Super Tweeter speaker provides auxiliary high frequency effect, detail, density and texture that can enhance your existing system’s sound field with width, depth and enhanced timbre.

Aperion Super Tweeter is generally intended to respond well into ultra-high frequencies over 20 kHz, the commonly accepted upper frequency limit of human hearing. Super Tweeters are ideal for taking advantage extended-range audio formats such as vinyl, SACD, FLAC, UHD Bluray and other high-fidelity products.

Extended High Frequency Flat-Ribbon Tweeter

This is not your normal tweeter. While most tweeters max out at around 20K, the APERION Planar Ribbon Super Tweeter extends another 20,000+ Hertz above that.

5-point Crossover + OFF

Choose between 8, 10, 12, 14 or 16 kHz to set the Super Tweeter floor for the perfect blend with your speaker. The "OFF" position renders the Super Tweeter inert. The lowest setting, 8 kHz, will provide the most overlap with your existing tweeter while the highest setting, 16 kHz, will have minimal overlap, picking up at the top-end of the range. The crossover slope is 12 dB/octave.

Treble Adjust Knob

Too much of a good things? Use the treble adjust to reduce the output of the Super Tweeter. Just flip the switch and adjust to taste, up to -5dB.

The finishing touch for every Super Tweeter Speaker is a matte black/white or piano-black lacquer that’s so right for every decor, your coffee table will be jealous.

How to connect aperion super tweeters

Easy Connection

The Super Tweeter shares the same binding posts as the speaker you're pairing it with. It feeds off the power your main speaker is already receiving, so no need to connect directly to an amplifier.

FAQ

What kind of speakers will the Super Tweeter work with?

Answer: Most passive bookshelf or tower speakers are great candidates for the Super Tweeter. But, you can also use them with center channel speakers and surround speakers.

How do I connect the Super Tweeter speaker to my passive speakers?

Answer: The Super Tweeter connects directly to the binding posts on the speaker you are pairing it with (not to the amplifier!). This parallel connection allows the Super Tweeter to feed off the same signal as your main speaker.

Since the Super Tweeter will most likely be sharing the binding posts with your amplifier connection, using wire with spade or ring connections will allow both sets of wires to easily connect to the same binding posts. If your speakers are bi-ampable, you can use one set of binding posts for the Super Tweeter and the other for the amplifier (making sure to keep the jumpers in place).

Can I use the Super Tweeter speaker with my active (powered) or Bluetooth speakers?

Answer: If it’s a sealed box, or portable type of Bluetooth speaker, you most likely will not be able to use a Super Tweeter with this speaker.

"Will the Super Tweeter work with my electrostatic, full range, or professional audio speakers?"

Answer: We advise you to check the sensitivity level and frequency response of your current speakers. A speaker that has a higher sensitivity level rating than the Super Tweeter might not be a good fit. However, the we've received feedback that the Super Tweeter works great with Bose 901's, Quad Electrostatic 2805, and other full range and electrostatic speakers."

How much will the Super Tweeter change the treble response? Answer: The crossover setting will have the most effect on the treble sound. If your regular speaker doesn’t produce frequencies above 14 kHz very well, then that would be a good starting point for your crossover. Generally setting the crossover to 14 kHz or 16 kHz will add a nice touch to the treble response.

What speaker wire is best for the Super Tweeter speaker? Answer: As with all cable, we recommend at least 14 gauge to minimize any loss of electrical current.

What’s the highest frequency the Super Tweeter will reach? Answer: The Aperion Audio Super Tweeter can reach up to 35 kHz.

Funcionan bien, sin embargo hay que suministrarles bastante potencia para notar su influencia.Los tengo alimentados con un amplificador independiente.Aportan al sonido claridad y detalle,lo que les falta a la mayoría de cajas.Sstifecho con la compra.

For the money they just did not deliver for me. Build quality is good. Not much sound. Made a better paper weight. For me any how.

I ordered these in white to pair with my new white Wharfedale Diamond 11.4’s. Amazing combo!! They are easy to connect and tweak. I did not experience any audible issues with comb filtering or other aberrant sound issues people mention about super tweeters. I only heard increased detail, air, holographic FX sounds, longer decay on pianos and strings. Overall Presence was closer and more immediate, but was not accompanied by unwanted brightness or listening fatigue. I can’t recommend these enough for anyone with speakers that are known to have rolled off treble. It’s fun tweaking and optimizing them as well, the knobs in the back make it easy to test each setting out quickly. I suggest setting these atop your speakers in line with the tweeter driver in the baffle to get proper integration. Yours ears will tell you when it is just right :) I settled on -2db and 12kHz for my room with the Diamond 11.4s. Oh yah, they look good too if you’re worried about these sitting on top of your speaker. Atleast mine do being white on white with a black grill.

I bought these super tweeters since my Caintuck Audio Betsy open baffle speakers start rolling off in the treble above 10 Khz, although they still have some response to 20 kHz, so I wanted to get a flatter treble response in that region, or at least up to about 15 kHz where my 60 year old hearing starts to roll off according to test results.Since these Aperion super tweeters have an adjustable crossover from 8 kHz to 16 kHz and sensitivity adjustment by -3 dB to 0 dB, I was able to dial in the treble response I like. I found the best settings for my setup to be 10 kHz cross-over frequency setting and 0 dB sensitivity setting. I found the best position for the Aperion super tweeters to be on top of the Caintuck Betsy's open baffle, centered laterally on the axis of the speaker. With the Aperion super tweeters in my system, in addition to being able to hear some high frequency tones from such instruments as triangles, celestes, and cymbals that I could hear through some other speakers and through headphones, but which I could not hear through the Caintuck Betsy speakers, I was surprised to also hear faster leading edge transitions (aka attacks) even on bass instruments, which made string plucks pluckier and drum thwacks more impactful. I probably should not be surprised at this result since faster temporal transitions require wider bandwidths to be reproduced accurately.Unsurprisingly, I also heard more open and reverberant space reproduced from recordings.I was very glad not to hear any undue and irritating over emphasis of sibilance from adding the Aperion super tweeters.I also do not hear any noticeable so-called "comb filtering" (really acoustic interference fringe) effects with the Aperion super tweeters in my system with the settings listed above. I presume that this is because the drop in the Betsy's frequency response above 10 kHz and the turn on rate of the Aperion's crossover set on the 10 KHz setting are such that there is minimal overlap from the two in the 10 kHz to 15 kHz regime. The super tweeters are also well built and robust. I dropped each tweeter a couple of times during my setup testing while moving them around to find the best location, even chipping the finish on one of them, but I heard no audible degradation in performance after those drops. I don't recommend doing drop tests on these, but having accidentally dropped them I thought their robustness was notable.I should note that the Aperion super tweeters did sound to me a bit smoother and more refined after 24 to 36 hours of burn-in, but they are by no means harsh nor unrefined right out of the box. (Whether that is due to changes in the speaker's sound from burn-in or to accommodation by my sensory system, I do not know, nor do I care.)Overall, the Aperion super tweeters have been the best tweak for my audio system that I have ever bought.

These super tweeters are one of the best “tweaks” you can make with your system. Their adjustability makes them easy to integrate with a variety of speaker styles and designs. It took me a while to figure out how to best incorporate them into my system. I have large electrostatic panels, so placement can be problematic. I settled on placing them on 36” tall stands between and a bit recessed from the main speakers. This seems to mitigate any comb filtering effects that can occur when place on top of a speaker. The effect is more than a little subtle. They have transformed the sound in a big way. In addition to adding air and presence, definition and focus of the higher frequencies have improved dramatically. All of this has been accomplished with zero sibilance or shrillness to the sound. The better the recording, the more pronounced the effect. I highly recommend these to anyone who has speakers that may need a bit of help with the high end. Unlike some other super tweeters that only operate in the inaudible high frequency range, these have an instantly recognizable impact on sound.

I connected them in parallel with my Bose 901 main speakers in a surround sound system. (Post Bose equalizer) They bring vocals to life, add a crisp snap on the drums, and added clarity to strings. The construction and fit is excellent. The sound adjustment options make it easy to find an integrated sound that suits your individual taste. (I chose 12khz cross and 0 db volume).
