This Anderson Metals 06111 locknut is a brass pipefitting with 3/8" female NPT threads. The locknut increases stability in a piping system by locking two threaded fittings into place. It has female National Pipe Taper (NPT) threads for connecting to male threaded pipes, creating a tighter seal than straight threads. This fitting is made of brass for corrosion resistance, ductility at high temperatures, and low magnetic permeability. Brass can be connected to copper, brass, plastic, aluminum, and welded steel.

I wanted to do a panel mount air fitting. I needed to use a NPT threated retaining nut to hold the threaded fitting to the panel. Sandwiching the panel would not have worked because as you know pipe fittings never fully thread there's always threads showing due to a tapered style of fitting. This was able to do the job and was thin enough and still had room to tightly secure a quick disconnect fitting
