  • Bass resonance volume chamberfor unique, punchy sound
  • Large diaphragm dynamic microphone delivers accurate low frequencies
  • Integrated hum-compensation coil keeps noise to an absolute minimum
  • Established as an industry-standard kick drum microphone

The AKG D112 has been revamped in the new D112 MKII version. This professional dynamic bass drum microphone features a brand new integrated flexible mount, while still retaining all of the sonic strengths that have made its predecesor the industry standrd, The D112 has earned a famed reputation as one of the best bass drum microphones ever made due to its high SPL capability, punchy EQ and bulletproof construction. The D112 MkII can handle more than 160 dB SPL without distortion. Its large diaphragm has a very low resonance frequency that delivers a solid and powerful response below 100 Hz. Its authoritative low end is complemented by a narrow-band presence boost at 4 kHz that punches through even dense mixes and loud stage volumes with forceful impact. One of the many reasons artists and sound engineers love the D112 MkII is that it requires no additional EQ to sound just right as soon as you bring up the fader. Further refining its performance, the D112 MkII features an integrated hum-compensation coil that keeps noise to an absolute minimum. In addition to being an exceptional bass drum mic on stage and in the studio, the D112 MkII is an excellent choice for miking electric bass cabinets and trombones. Excellent kick drum reproduction for recording.. Crisp & clear. Sturdy construction just as you would expect from AKG. I own several (Higher End) AKG products and they never let me down and are all professional grade products.

I bought this for a few reasons. We’re still in shelter at home kinda mode. My children take music lessons which are online. My oldest has been recording for various projects. I use a Zoom H5n for recording anything that needs better than a phone. The H5 was lacking in one thing or another, either point it down and get the bass drum and lose some of the cymbals or gets the cymbals, snare and Tom but seriously lose the kick drum. My other son plays double bass. When I read this mic is good for trombone, I figured it’s got to be good for bass too. So I ordered it. I couldn’t be happier. We plug this into the Zoom H5, which is connected to a computer which is used for Zoom virtual lessons. Both the drumset and bass teachers really noticed an improvement. The bass teacher said it sounded like he was in the same room.

It was hard to choose a model due to the competing opinions. I am using this for a high-end bass guitar rig - home recordings for professionally mixed recordings. I'm very pleased with the sound.

I have the D112 and the Shure Beta. Both are built like tanks and work well for bass guitars, kick drums, and other very low-end applications. Study the curves for the frequencies these mikes will handle, because they differ. The Beta yields a smoother sound, whereas the D112 has more punch. I have a D112 mounted inside a 24" kick drum, just about 4" from the batter head. It sounds great. Generally among the handful of other drummers or engineers I know, the D112 is preferred on the kick for rock or country applications.

I use this for my bass drum and it sounds so good! It's a lot cheaper than the shure mics and sounds just as good in my opinion!

Sure is best but this mic is hard to angle because of the built in mic clip

It makes such deep smooth and clear bass tones, you will fall in love forever with the AKG D112 MkII (What a huge name)The recordings it does are so good you don't really need to adjust anything after recording it except maybe throw a limiter and comp for your mix, I just love its sound.

Its a great mic for kick drum, and it is really easy to get a good sound out of your drum with this.
