I installed a jack plate on my boat and had to remove the motor. This screwed in easy and held the motor just fine. In fact, I had to order an adapter for the plate and left the motor hanging by this ring for a week. No issues at all. Why risk rigging something to hold your expensive motor when you can get something made for it.
