The installation process did involve drilling out the four rivets holding the recoil starter assembly to the housing. I did use a hand riveter with four rivets to re-secure the new one. You can use short nuts and bolts if rivets are not available. Installation was not really a big deal. Cost me $12.99. Better than spending $97 for the whole assembly from Sears parts. I am absolutely pleased with this product.

Knot in pull rope just popped right through the handle. Unwound itself inside the assembly and almost got tangled inside the motor. Poorly made. Spend a few extra bucks and get a genuine one. Worked great for the first few pulls and then.. pop!

Since it is necessary to drill out rivets that hold on the old starter assembly, this should come with nuts and bolts to replace them with. Without them, there is no way to install this without a trip to the hardware store.Other kits come with the necessary hardware so I assumed this one would as well.

bought for old craftsman pressure washer, fit and works great, easier than trying to rewind spring and rope stuff, like whole assembly products
